Great pics chap.
Looks like it will be a real wrench selling that car!
Places to stay etc depend on what you want and your budget of course!
The area near Stevenson College is mixed, there are a few housing areas in nearby but also Corstorphine which is very expensive. do you want to be city centre? Do you need parking etc?
We have regular meets through SIDC (Subaru Impreza Drivers Club) so no worries on that front. Always cars for sale there too!
Subaru Impreza Drivers Club -> Scottish Scoobies
When are you coming over?
5t.
EDIT on car for sale one very special nmotor up at the moment... Need to be proper minted though!

Thanks for the help.
It doesn't have to be in the city centre, and I prefer it in the country if it is cheaper and there is accessibility to buses/trams. Parking isn't too critical. I don't plan to buy a car that is too expensive to having the risk of having it stolen. Preferably being a Subaru. I will have to look into to the procedure on registering the vehicle/insurance as well.
I plan on arriving in December for a couple weeks to check out the area and look for a flat. I wouldn't mind to attend one of the meets and get a little more insight to the area.
Thanks for the link. I'm sure I'll find some stuff on that sight.
What does 5T mean? 5 Transmission?
I'm also looking at spending 200-300£ for a flat each month. Reasonable for a decent place?

I think you'll need to spend a bit more for a 'decent' place. I rent out a 2 bed flat in Falkirk, about 25 miles from edinburgh and as it is only 7 years old and in a nice place it is £475 per month.
Check out gumtree website for options on flats and view the maps. If you see any you like post them up, we can give a view on it.
Transport is actually quite good. The bus services are very regular to/from city centre. Depends where you will be travelling to of course.
5t is just short for fivetide the username. It is a character from a book. Nothing more!

Unfortunetly Edinburgh is expensive. You'll be lucky, or unlucky to get something for £200-300 p/m. You'll be looking at least double that.
This is the rip-off UK.
I've been to several 1000 Lakes rallies, they're good!!

There is no way as said that you will get a flat for that money, more like double to be honest.
Everything is expensive in UK and even more so in our capital "tourist rip off" City.
Places to stay away from are the ones that will be cheapest to rent in and off the top of my head i would say avoid: Wester hailes, Pilton, Niddrie to name a few.
Welcome by the way and you will be most welcome to any of the meets,
Ps your bird looks well fit,lol

Firstly, your girlfriend is hot.
Secondly, avoid Wester Hailes like the plague, or you may catch it.
£200-£300 pcm will get you a lovely crack house in one of the areas mentioned by bluenosewrx. Lol You could be looking at £500 as a minimum. Hopefully you'll get something, and I'm sure if your girlfriend has a part time job too this shouldn't be a problem.
Good luck whatever you decide on.

Thanks for all advice and warning on areas guys. I'll put that on my list to stay away from.Yeah I was thinking 200-300 was a little cheap because the flats in that price range didn't look that good either. Last thing I need is a cracker knocking on my door. Even if it was 500, that would be 275 for each of us. So that is like $437 USD. Pretty expensive in my opinion. Maybe find a 2 bedroom and have another mate and split the 500 in 3 pieces.
Either way, I'll look on gumtree like fivetide suggested on flats and cars. That is a pretty useful website. It is similar to craiglist like in US.
I'll keep you posted if anything happens.
fivetide: Is that a two bedroom for 475?

I see you worked for Erickson, did they put you through your EASA part 66 licence? A friend of mine worked for them and now works with me as an LAE in Aberdeen. There isn't much helicopter work other than Aberdeen in Scotland apart from maybe some smaller outfits in the area, but I can't see them hiring unless you have an EASA licence.
Edinburgh is a lovely city, but like anywhere in the world it has its rough parts. As everybody else says, the nice parts are expensive.
Good Luck

Hi mate,
like everyone else says Edinburgh is an expensive city too live in but if your looking too be within 5 or 10 miles of the capital have a look at midlothian ie Penicuik, loanhead, rosewell, dalkeith.Or you could look at prices in Musselburgh,East lothian also just a stone throw away from Edinburgh.
