Hi All

I've had a barrier deadlock fitted for about the last 2 months now, and have waited until I'd live with it for a while before posting about it.

(If you don't know what it is, it's a lock mechanism that is fitted to the side of the transmission tunnel which locks the car in reverse)

I have to say, I really pleased with it. It take about a second to push the lock in and it gives an extra level of peace of mind when you leave the car somewhere.

The only niggle is that I keep starting the car and the realising I haven't unlocked the deadlock, although I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Barrier installed it at Tyres Northampton and it only took about an hour and a half (ish from memory) and is well worth the dosh (about £200) IMHO.

Such a simple idea, and really effective IMHO.

If your thinking of a security addition that isn't too expensive does not replace your alarm, etc, this is it.

Had mine fitted last week by Ian from Vehicle Security Installations. Excellent product.

 

Had mine fitted since new, about 14 months ago - park the car where it needs to be parked (carefully!) which includes city centres, railway car parks, airports etc. and not a sniff of a problem so far.

I mailed TN about the Barrier Deadlock a few days ago; they came back and told me to hang on for a new product, out shortly, that is both cheaper and better.

My breath is bated........

 

Yep I am interested in one as well perhaps we could set a scoobynet group buy / installation day ?

ie. all go on a specific day and production line them ?

You certainly wouldn't want to try fitting it yourself, it involves welding and cutting holes in the transmission tunnel

I had one fitted from new and I'm very happy with it. It's unobtrusive, takes a second to engage and two seconds to unlock, and rapidly becomes second nature to use. Don't know about effectiveness, but after 18 months my car is still in my posession, and it feels solid enough.

Definitely recommended.

I had a barrier deadlock fitted last November - adds peace of mind when leaving the scoob. Only problem so far is it won't engage when parked on a hill. Anyone else had this problem? Maybe I need to have a word with the Subaru garage that fitted it...

 

Brilliant bit of kit. We've had ours for about two years now.

Said it before, but, it stopped our car being nicked when we were broken in to. They were in car with engine running, but car didn't move an inch, except backwards

Worth every penny, IMO

Barrier Deadlock was the first thing I bought for my car 18 months ago. Excellent product.

I've also read a few magazine reviews and nobody has been able to crack a Barrier Deadlock within the test time (hazy memory, but I think What Car?'s 'theif' gave up after 20 minutes).

It's only shortcoming is it's so discreet that a theif might have smashed into the car before realising it wasn't going anywhere. Think I'll make a make a sign and stick it on the steering wheel when parked.

Barrier deadlock are on 0151-489 4889.

I've no interest/connection with them blah blah...

I put the BD stickers on both the front windows just above the external door handles - I guess these are favorite access points?! But one of my stickers is getting tatty due to window movement - anyone have a spare?

Phil, maybe that's enough exposure. Not sure!

I've recently put on new stickers as the originals, on the bottom of the front windows, were catching and getting pulled off. I've put new ones on the top of the rear window where I think they're more visible and, as the rear window doesn't open fully, there's no catching problems.

I phoned Barrier Deadlock for some spare stickers and they sent me four FOC next day.

The guy who fitted my Tracker nearly a couple of years ago told me about it, but I didnt bother then, having just spent £500 on the Tracker.

Then after 6 months when the Scoob was stolen...

Well I got the Scoob back thanks to the Tracker (police found it within half an hour, 30 odd miles away), I thought, hmmm, Barrier Deadlock.

So I got it fitted, and now sleep easier (at work too)

A good investment, no doubt about it.

Thanks AllanP, DavidLewis and Nick B for confirming the hill 'feature'. I've tried to wiggle it without success, but I'll give the engage clutch tip a go next time and see if that helps.

I was contacted by the North West regional Barrier Deadlock guy (based in Huyton, Merseyside) who said he would give a discount to all SIDC / Scoobynet members, especially for group bookings.

Had mine for 12 months and no complaints - have had to leave the car in some risky areas (stations, town center car parks etc) and it has given peace of mind.

The only embarrassment is reversing the car into the middle of the road before remembering the lock is engaged - gives the neighbors a laugh as you stop and fiddle!

I find I get round the hill problem by keeping the clutch depressed when engaging the lock - bit stiffer than usual but still goes.

Highly recommended.

I have the same problem, although with a little wiggling, you can still get it to lock. Thought it was just me.

 

Been thinking about this for a while.
After reading this thread even more convinced to get one, especially as after having the down pipe done ( backbox done ages ago ) the car is attracting looks from some rather dodgy looking people.
A localish dealer is fitting it for £245.

Had one fitted same place as Simon at about the same time.
I was promised some docs, proof of fitment.
After much chasing/promises I received an Invoice. ?
I was expecting some doc to enable me to get duplicate keys cut if necessary etc, some unique identifier in case of problems, not just an Invoice that really tells me nothing.

Did anyone else get this or am I missing something.

Good product by the way, no issues here.

I was given an Installation Certificate which shows key no e.t.c. and details of the accredited installer.
I believe mine was fitted by Deadlock themselves at the dealer.

Sounds universally recommended, and I want to get one.
How do I go about it? Do they have a website, or should I just ring the number quoted above?
Will they come out to fit it, eg to Subaru dealer, or do you have to go to them?

Mine was fitted by the Subaru garage in Stourbridge (Showells). IIRC it was done by one of their own mechanics. I have a feeling that Burts who are closer to you can also fit them...
