RAC Trackstar

They sent me a letter a few weeks after my car was a year old offering various options for renewal. The first few years I paid by cheque, but then last year set-up the direct debit. I think there was also a lifetime membership option, which was something like £300 - £400

I should imagine that mainstream firms like directline aren't the most competitive companies in the first place. Indeed, I have never had a competitive quote from them tracker or not.
BTW fully comp 538 quid protected, non garaged 6 speeding points, modifications, urban area.

In my first year with them I repeatedly asked them for some documentation to detail that I was actually covered, they seemed absolutely bewildered by this. They sent me out about 5 different things including an application form (?) and a certificate to say I had the physical tracker installed that had 3 digits of my registration plate incorrect and said I had an 'Impressa Xti' In the end I gave up.
This year when my renewal was due I had to find this out by looking through old visa statements since I'd got nothing from them the previous year and had no reminder through. I asked them this year to send something out about the date the subscription would expire and they wrote in pencil on a scrap of paper 'you're subscription will end a year after it starts'?!?!?? FFS.
After losing my rag with about 5 numpties I got through to the UK Customer Services Manager who got someone to type out a letter stating start and end dates of coverage. Even he was suprised that anyone would actually want notification of when coverage starts and ends?!? They seem to have no mechanism at all for auto generating this....
God help me if the car ever got stolen.

The best one is when you're happily paying your annual subs and they have no clue what-so-ever where your car is when you ask them to run a check. Happened to me and a load of other P1 owners. They had to send an engineer out to fix the tracker. They couldn't tell me when the tracker stopped working, nor if it ever worked.

I've always found trackstar to be a pile of useless Sh*te Firstly they take fackin weeks to respond to you then they take £160 out of your account for no reason what so ever and it takes weeks for them to reimburse you (thats me assuming I'm getting reimbursed as I'm still bloody waiting ). *****!
Rant over
If you insure with Admiral, elephant or Bell (all the same company) they dont insist on a tracker and they are mighty cheap too.

I had a RAC trackstar on my type20, when it was stolen, while i was on holiday they had no idea it had been. Later found out that if the car is left for more 24hours without being started it goes into stand by mode. It only fires a signal off after 6 hours of being re-started. Thus if you have your car stolen they have 6 hours to park it somewhere with no reception or to rip it out !! Total S*** will never use, or waste my money again.
