Default Opinions on these Brembo's

Been offered a set of newage Brembo's, Iv got a photo of them but do they look ok? I know the paints a bit tatty and the chap has said there in full working order with circa 70k miles on them.
How much is a refurb on brembo calipers out of interest worst case scenario.

To be fair, those pictures tell you nothing other than they could do with a little touching up paint wise, you need to see the pistons freely sliding in and out to have a reasonable idea.

Brembos tend NOT to seize, being quite well sealed.

but if they are off, it would almost be rude not to.

strip 'em yourself, but a seal kit, paint 'em and away you go.

You can even get the stickers off ebay.

Do they fit under your wheels? They need STi 17's at minimum.

Ask them for a picture of the lugs as they can corrode quite a lot around there , ask if the threads are all ok , if the bleed nipples move freely and the threads for them are also ok , and see if the seals are all good , as long as the weather and dust can't get in behind the seals then the pistons should be ok

Cheers guys.
He says everything is moving freely and all in good working order.
Iv currently got st2 speedlines so looking at replacements to clear the Brembo's.

by the time you get wheels and brakes you may find a set of AP 6 pots arn't huge amounts more and a much better brake, typicly will go under most wheels

AP 4 pots work almost as well as the 6 pots on a classic, you get a weight saving and can be had a little cheaper than their bigger cousins too

Fairly easy to strip down yourself, if you get stuck there's plenty of diy threads online,
Same goes for replacing all the seals.

If your going to do the cosmetic side of things it better to powder coat than paint them.
Painting is easy but chips easily and will start to look tatty again within a year.

Lots of specialists that can do the work for you like Godspeed, Brake Caliper Specialist, scoobyworx, ect.

Where sells these AP 4-6 pots then?
What about replacement discs and pads though, are these more pricey then brembo discs and pads?

I was looking at changing wheels anyway but if there's an alternative brake system that'll fit with the st2's and are as effective as the Brembo's then it may well be more cost effective and il just change the colour of the alloys.

Would I need to upgrade the rear brakes as it's currently on the single pot caliper, car is a weekend "toy" with probably a trackday per year.
The fronts are the subaru 4 pots and tbh they aren't very good IMHO, I had a couple of evo's before this scoob and the Brembo's on them are very good.

Would the 6 pot ap kit fit with the st2 wheels aswell or is this kit a bit overkill for what the car is used for?
Do the 4 and 6 pot kit use the same discs out of interest?

Also, do the 2 pot rears off a newage WRX require the same fitting kits as the 2 pot rear Brembo's? Mines a 1997 version 3 STi if that makes a difference.

We can refurb the brembos and repair any damaged threads with timeserts or helicoils if your on a budget.

We powder coat in a range of colours and can repair minor lug corrosion or if they are bad they can be welded and machined back to shape also. Welding repairs are done at your own risk though although we have never had an issue with them but no manufacturer will agree to welding repairs on their calipers been ok.

AP 6 pots fit under st2 s perfectly and work fecking awesome. **** buying 2nd hand and then refurb then new wheels. That ain't very cost effective.

Oh and st2 are a awesome looking wheel if I do say so myself.

Thats made my mind up, think il go for the 4 pot system though as the 6 would probably be overkill and il be changing wheel colour to gold!
What setup do you run on the rear?

You can never have enough stopping power :-)
I went brembos. As I have a v3 sti ra I had 1 pot sliders and could not get a adapter bracket so just bought new age rear hubs and they fitted straight on. I was r180

are they good on cold bite and whats the noise like?

Disks front I'm using front Godspeed, rear I'm using scoobyworx both front and rear pfz pads I've done 4 track days 1 sprint with them and still awesome no wobbles in fact they just seem to be getting better and better.
I would also say awesome from cold. I never drive hard or fast till cars up to temp still get good bite till then. No squeal at all.

Also just fitted a brake stopper. Wow!! What a difference that made wish I knew the difference it made ages ago!

excellent, Il have a good think as may go for the 6 pots if they are that good.
one more thing, did you fit front and rears at same time or did you run with the 6 pots and standard rears for a while?

No I done both st the same time tho I bought the brembos first. Mattyb has a set for sale just now £220

Is the STI RA same rear set up as the normal STI do you know?
Trying to work out what I would need to fit the rears!

Also think about having the brake bias mod done.

Mine now stops flatter and quicker.

They vary from year to year if you are r180 buy new age rear hubs saves buying the bigger handbrake shoes and adapter kit to hold the brembos. Was Asperformance that advised me what I needed

Mine was done at DLM in Darlington, under the care of the late, great Harvey Smith.

Brake bias mod, 98 UK Impreza.


Looks simple enough to me. Would need bleeding again, but the car is far more planted on braking, no front end dive.
