Which Gates Timing Belt?
Hi,
Can anyone advise which Gates part number it correct for a 1997 Turbo 2000 (Phase 1.5 Engine). I've found two likely candidates listed in various places, but am not sure which one I need. One appears to have an additional idler in the diagram, but both claim to have 281 teeth and be 30mm wide. Is there any way I can tell which one to order in advance without having to go and remove the covers on my car to see if I have the extra idler or not? My particular model/year doesn't appear to be specified on the Gates parts catalogue either.

Is a pain in the *** with the 96/97 cars.
I ordered the wrong one 1st time with my late 96 jdm
Apparently they came with both the 2 piece tensioner or the one piece tensioner(which I believe comes with an extra small idler)
Might be different on the UK cars tho? I would have thought a call to a Subaru dealer giving your vin number would tell you which one you have?
Failing that it doesn't take much to remove one of the covers to have a look behind(saying that if you have a fmic then it is a bit of a pain in the ***)
