Couple questions , are they any good for a classic WRX as in
1 Do they fit and if so how much modification required
2 Are they too laggy for a classic WRX ?
Lastly how do you tell a fake ?

They fit, yes.
Not too laggy at all, esp if you get a Harvey Trick Up-pipe, now sold by AS Performance.
Mine tops 400/400 with a Harvey Smith modded TD05 and a 2.5 litre forged lump. Mapped by the great Bob Rawle.

Cheers for input guys , as noted I think it's good on a 2.5 but a 2.0 I've read they are not good on the road . A 18g is best . Not sure how they fit tho as my TD05 turbo has a curved entry into the turbine housing whereas these do not

When I ran my td05-20g on my 2003 wrx I had 1 bar by 2900-3000 RPM in 5th gear, and full boost (1.5 bar) a couple of hundred RPM later.
This was on a standard block, and gt spec headers (3 bolt) and 3" decat downpipe to a 2.5" system with ppp back box, a cone air filter of some sort, and a 3 port boost controller.
This was on its third iteration of (JGM) mapping, though, and it took a while to get "right". I think the 3 port made some difference to the spool characteristics.
Fundamentally, I think the 20g was great on the road and track. I'm going for a td06-20g next (7cm exhaust housing), and it will be interesting to see how it drives.

I'm currently running a td05-20g with 8cm housing on my stroked 2.1. It spools later for sure compared to my old vf43, but the top end difference is night and day. Currently it gets to 1bar at around 3000-3500 with a harvey up pipe, and hits the target 1.5bar at 4000-4200 (this is 3rd gear and FMIC).
In short - is it laggier? Yes
Is it worth it? Hell yeah..

I've heard a few people have gone though quite a few gear boxes with the 20G.
I've been looking to upgrade to the TD05 16G, found a company online that sells them new.

I've had one fitted since Nov. 2010. Been running 350 lb ft since all that time... The TY754 box is still going strong, no issues (as is the std. EJ207 motor).
I do, however, rarely (hardly ever) launch from a standstill.

How to tell if i have a 20g tdo5
Hi guys sorry to jump on someone else thread. Does anybody know if its actually stamped on the turbo if I have a tdo5 20g? Not long bought a wrx v1 and the guy said it has a 20g turbo but not sure if he is telling porkies. Is there any tell tail signs like markings on the turbo or will the turbo have to come off to be able to tell? Thanks
