Default Trackday- anyone interested?

Just need a bit of feedback if this worth organising at some stage in the near future. I am thinking Donnington Park or Bedford, would be the closest & suitable. We could do either slienced at 98db at Bedofrd/ Donnington or unsilienced day at Donnington. Either whole day or half day evening. Im getting my gauges fitted next week & then just need to do brake fluid change & then Im ready!!!

ESC & other regional members all welcome !

Anyone?

Don't know whether the Citroen ZXdSTI will meet the noise restrictions...best not to chance it me thinks!...

We need to bully Monkey into using some of his dads "hardware", they've got some good ammo to use on a trackday.

Been looking in to this and i would say the best day to do it would be a weekday if people did not mind taking a day off?

I have done track days before and weekends are allways too packed and for the people trying to safe a bit of money cost more.

Looking at trackdays.com we could do it on a Friday 25th, day, Donni, 3 groups per hour for £145.

Or bedford Saturday the 9th, day, open pit lane @ £209 what is good for and open pit lane day but we will need to be quick as they only let about 25 car's to that one?

But of cause it is up to you guys, as long as im in England i can do any day

Good to see so much interest! As Ash said weekdays are always better than weekends, but I suppose it depends on what most of us are able to attend. I think if we could put up different dates at the two tracks & everyone put down which one they could attend, we could decide that way?

Donnington is a drive by test so not too bad at 98db. Bedford is 87.5db drive & can be quite strict with this & even tyre squeal noise!!! Also Donnington will probably allow you you try & silence a noisy car & come back on, but Bedford is a "one strike & out" rule. For this reason alone I would think for us Scooby owners Donnington may be better. I would definetley advise all to bring a bung with you as they will not refund your money if your car cannot be quietened less than noise limits. Also Bedford is a bit of a flat featureless airfield & is not as well organised as Donnington but what do you guys think?. Opinions?

(Donnington does not have an unsilenced day till Nov & to confuse matters various websites are listing certain Bedford trackdays at 101db, but thats static not drive by which is 87.5db )

I thought its better to let everyone know (in case anyone wasn't aware) of issues with noise limits now before its too late.

While we'r on the topic of doom & gloom, trackday insurance is another thing to consider before venturing onto the track. Its not a requirement and any accident has got nothing to do with fault, you just have to get your own car fixed up & thats it. Your own insurance company may charge an extra £60 for the day but it will have e.g £5,000 excess so only really useful in case of big accident. If your insurance company dont do trackdays then a specialist trackday ins can be approx £200. Either way your looking at big excess's so only useful for bigger off's.

You'l also need a helmet. (Doesnt have to be Type A compettion type), motorbike AUC gold stamp or pretty much any will be fine! You can hire them there or if you want to buy one then an AUC gold std motorcycle helmet will be fine.

Helmet faq
Lifting the lid

You may also need to show your driving licence (both parts)!

Apologies if you altready know all this, but thought Id let everyone know all the facts before deciding whether to go or not.

Just want to keep the thread & trackday moving: So are people ok with Donnington or prefer another track?

Also Im provisionally adding names to the list below, please feel free to add or delete. After deciding on track, hopefully early next week we can put up dates for people to vote on or discuss.

ps Also as Ash said, even if you dont want to go on track, its still great fun to come & watch & take passenger laps with others.

Interested

Accidents can happen but are rare & are mainly drivers own error rather than someone piling into the back of you.

Here's a couple of pics to get you lot more enthusiastic from last trip to Donnington in my old 350z !!

Guv the thing is it's not a race! So there is no need to drive to the point were you may blow something.

Just take your time going round getting quicker and quicker and let the faster people go past (don't get in to a race with them! It will end up in tears!)

Very ture, I had one of the slower cars on the track & I was'nt really pushing too hard, changing gears at 5,000 rpm & less; easy on gearchanges, just hard on brakes & tyres on a couple corners. I was letting all faster cars through & I was actually slowing down on purpose many times to find nice big gaps on the track. I had an empty track in front & behind for laps on end. (though that was March & early in year I suppose for trackdays)

I was there for the full day, but didnt go out for first two morning sessions & left at approx 4pm before last session.

Thats a great idea Budgie, did'nt even know it was on!
Why dont we list it as one of the possible dates & people can decide which, or even both they want to attend. In fact Im thinking of doing the SIDC day at Silverstone & Donnington

I'l confirm numbers of places remaining with Donnington this week & ammend as neccesary. Budgie any ideas how many places left for Silverstone?

Please put your name under which date/dates you can provisionally attend:

1)Triple club trackday by MLR, SIDC & GTROC at Silverstone Sat 23rd Aug
(£149 SIDC members)

2) Donnington National Circuit Trackzone trackday Fri 25th July
(£145)

3) Donnington National Circuit Trackzone trackday Thu 7th Aug
(£145)

4) Donnington National Circuit Trackzone trackday Sun 14th Sep
(£145)
