Default Southend United

I'm probably going to regret saying this but ......

Is it just me or this a really exciting time to be following Southed United? 2 years running we have punched above our weight and got through to the LDV Vans final, reached the Division 2 play-offs and unbelievably - won.

The manager is a saaarf-end boy through and through, crowds are having to be turned away from the gates, attendances are one of the highest in the league and we have some exciting players (Eastwood, Goater) who could really lead us somewhere.

Theres a real buzz about the club at the moment which is unusual let me tell you.

Against all the odds we are currently 3rd in the division, I know its early but I would have expected a Spanish Inquisition more than this at this stage of the season, we are normally hovering about the relegation places...

I know all you glory hunters will probably only have heard of Southend when watching Eastenders......

Cool

Good luck to you Milamber

I'm a keon gambler on the footy and have been watching your lot slowly climb the table, theyre good value for a home win most weeks, backed them to win the playoff last season tipped by Ray Clarridge!

At least you have a decent manager now rather than the 2nd hand car salesman you've had in the past. I see Goater is still doing it 5 already this season, feed the goat and he will score

cheers Funkii. Been a weird year - Saarfend going up AND England winning the Ashes. All I need now is Melanie Sykes to come to her senses and my life will be complete

Looking forward to Southend coming down to Brentford, hopefully it`ll be a top of the table clash Unfortunately we`ll have to beat you home and away and dump you straight back into league 2
Nah, fair play, good to see them doing well

Was impressed by Freddy Eastwood when he came to Scunny last year, (we won )

Did you know Lawsy tried to sign him?

Funnily enough, Southend is one of the few league grounds I've never been to. I did go once as a lad on a supporter's coach, but when we got to SouthPORT where I'd already been the season before, I was a little disappointed.

So why are they turning crowds away? What's your ground limit?

Makes a change from the old days at Southend, then, when the police had to stop people climbing over the walls....................and make them go back in again

Ground limit is about 12,000 but they hadn't printed up enough tickets! Apparently they didn't expect there to be such a big crowd. Now that is penny pinching...

lol.. course your doing well, you beat oldham the other week

Seriously though its refreshing to see a smaller club start coming up, teams like yourself are suprising some of the "bigger" clubs. Doncaster managed a good season last year and theres no reason you cant this year. Goater is a quality player and should keep you in the top half of the table IMO....

just aslong as you dont keep us out of the play offs come May I wish you all the best for this season.... getting out of this league has to be the hardest out of all of them I think. We've been stuck here for a while now money is the only thing that'll see you out of it unless you have a run of consistency like Luton managed

He is such a talent that I doubt if we'll be able to keep him long, but you never know. If we keep up our recent run of form it may be worth staying with us for a bit longer.

I'm sure it will all come crashing down soon though, you get used to that as a Southend fan

Aye........so were we a couple of weeks back. Looks like the bubble has burst though

Didn't print enough tickets LOL.

Sounds as though you're run by similar folk who run our club, the "I couldn't organise a party in a brewery" brigade. Last week we played Birmingham City. They decided it would be all ticket. Even when Birmingham only took half of the 2000 tickets we sent them, the alarm bells didn't go off, and they refused to open the turnstiles on the night.
Result: a crowd of 6000 or so And we lost

Oh well, I'll be in MK on Tuesday night anyway, we seem to do better at home, better atmosphere.............

Still top of the table and edging clear now. All it takes is us to beat Swansea on Saturday (no mean feat) and Huddersfield lose to Yeovil we will be 5 points clear.

Unbelievable for Southend even ignoring the fact that it is our first year in this division.

Good, isn't it? At least YOU lost to a team that's up there, playing footy, with one of thje best strikers in our division, (Sheff Wed just had £750,000 turned down for Trundle).

WE lose to the teams who are either rock botom, or threabouts.

Anyway, we're on Sky this afternoon, have a look at our strikers, Billy Sharp, 12 goals so far, and Andy Keogh, 7 goals.

There you go...............they were third from bottom, and we got pasted.

Now we have TWO days to recover form playing as 10 vs 11 for 70 minutes, before meeting Bury in the FA Cup 1st round replay..........and Bury played FRIDAY!!

lol.. it was a good match actually, cant believe the Donkey Lashers pulled out a score like that though result seemed a little unfair though but some of your defending was shocking at times.

Unhappy

Agreed.........and that's almost the same defence who conceded the least goals in their division last year.

Mind you, we usually set bizarre records: First ever team to be knocked out of the FA cup on penalties

And two seasons ago, some wag worked out that if we'd played 80 minute games, not 90, we'd have been promoted as champions. Instead, we avoided the drop to the conference by ONE point

Over halfway through the season, all of our injured players are back and we are still top of the table. Unbelievable.

We are all hot on your tails though. Watch you last weekend against Oldham, not a bad performance, we had a couple of let off's but very even. You do look like you play alot around Eastwood though, he looked your only real threat most of the game IMO

I know, it's a an exciting division at the moment. My point is that as it is our first year in this division we should never be this high.

I know what you say about Eastwood, but hey, lets play to our strengths...

Think yourselves lucky, our entire midfield has gone to CCC clubs now for less than 200k in total. See them yourselves when Burnley play Preston soon

Our manager is now digging at the chairmen for selling players from underneath him...

It's all good fun on the South Coast. Not.
