Isn't it always like that before the World Cup and European Championships? We normally seem to do ok in them

Michael Owen on the radio this morning, Only team who has a better squad than England is Brazil.... Not that it matters, we might have a ruddy good squad but we certainly dont have a good teamwork ability.....

For the first time ever I just dont look forward to watching England games anymore. truely awful

The game saturday was truly worrying, and like you Dave - I ain't looking forward to Germany. I've been a longterm critic of Sven, I just don't think he has the fire in the belly we need to instill in our players. I'm not sure of his tactical prowess either.

On the up-side, all squad players are currently concentrating on the domestic fixtures and only get to train as the the england squad for a few days prior to a world cup game. Wednesday might be better as the squad will have been together for a week or so. So maybe when they are all in the camp together, concentrating solely on the job, then the squad will 'gel' and create some form.

Not all is lost, Brazil could only draw 1-1 with Bolivia last night, and although it wasn't exactly an all-star Brazil squad, Robinho and Adriano were still in the squad. Brazil SHOULD have twatted Bolivia, and England SHOULD have twatted Austria, but neither did. Will Brazil play crap come the knockout rounds ? Nope. Will England ? I hope not.

I'm still worried, deeply worried, but not all is lost just yet.........

Watched England & Austria, and only just managed to stop myself from changing the channel. England were poor and thats being kind. When you look at the names in the England squad, they look like they have a strong team. Put them all on the pitch together and they play like a bunch of idiots.

Without starting a huge debate on the state of England's team, I personally put it down to the amount of overseas players in the premiership. Far too many clubs rely on buying players in as apposed to training up new players.

Roll on Germany...

ENGLAND 2 - 1 POLAND.

Well done lads, much better.

That's the best way for an england team to play, aggressive and with pace.

Rooney, Lampard, Wright-phillips and King were top draw.

Terry getting the armband could and should be a sign of things to come.

Sven, if you're reading this I think you should think twice about DB......!

FIRST CLASS...........!

Si.

Eh... dragging an old thread up... whats wrong with mine lol

Yup we played well but still not convinced..... this is what I put anyhow in my other thread just so if 1 thread gets ignored Ive still stuck my tuppence in

We played much better and great, Im pleased with a performance for once BUT and its a big BUT.. The second Gerrard is back King will be dropped, Do you think Becks will be on the bench the next game? will he eck as like.... We'll be straight back to square 1. Lampard really shone tonight without Gerrard in the way.

Still think Sven is useless, the changes worked tonight and every Englishman in the country knew these changes needed to be made but Sven only changed them because he was forced too.....

Cant believe some of the baffling subs again. Lucky we won, we could have easily lost given some of the chances the Polish had, again in the second half they was given space and any world class team would have used that space to punish us.....

Yup,

I think it would shake the whole team in a positive way up if Sven had the ***** to put DB on the bench. They would all raise their game then as they would realise any position is at risk.

Also, DB is the wrong person for the captaincy but that won't change either. It makes me cringe when I see DB trying to win the ball back, he is so embrassingly crap.

Disagree, Becks is a good captain, hes always the first there at any sign of trouble keeping his team under wraps, Hes a public figure and well respected by the other footballers, Im more concerned as to why Owen is our second captain

Becks is a quality player, hes just more adapted to European football rather than the English style and what the English fans want to see.....

last night was a marked improvement on the football played.

Personally I thought the team played better without Beckham. Lampard had free reign and it showed. Wright-Phillips, and Rooney change the shape and attitude of the team. The only sub that I didnt agree with was Crouch - not really sure how he fits in the England team yet.
