Southgate Refused Permission To Be The Smog's New Manager
Seems the LMA have ruled against allowing Southgate to be Boro's new manager. Unlike Glenn Roeder, Southgate has no managerial experience and not a single coaching qualification. He's at least 2 years from being qualified.
Is the LMA being churlish? Are they attempting to protect the interests of their members? Or do they have the best interests of Football at heart?
I personally feel Southgate (or any other), should be allowed to manage if the Smogs want him to. Let's face it, with O'Neill, Curbishley, and Venables rejecting the job and ex Smog Mowbray distancing himself from the position, it's not as if people are queuing up to do it.
Pete! Your dream job awaits!
PS I really do think the LMA is run by a bunch of t0ssers!

its all a load of tosh, the future of football management and football in general lies with the youth, people who want to play football, there are too many dinousaurs in management at the minute, hence less choice for an english manager for the best job in the world. Particulally in lower leagues there are too many has beens. Its ruining the style of play, too much Wimbledon type football going on down here.

The LMA is just another self-interested, narrow minded protectionist Union racket IMO
The people who own and run businesses (any business) are the only ones entitled to decide who they want to employ, and how they want to employ them.
Before we know it the PFA will be thinking they have the power to refuse Sven permission to include Theo Wallcott in his squad

The only one offered the NUFC manager's job was Glenn Roeder... No one else.
Good luck if it's Martin O'Neill. Isn't his record in the EPL similar to McClaren's?

Southgate set for Boro boss role
Gareth Southgate and Steve McClaren
Southgate is hoping to take over as manager from Steve McClaren
Middlesbrough are set to install Gareth Southgate as boss even though he does not have the correct coaching badges.
Boro have called a media conference for 1400 BST on Wednesday when Southgate is expected to succeed Steve McClaren.
Chairman Steve Gibson is confident that a precedent was set when Glenn Roeder took over at Newcastle even though he did not have a Uefa Pro Licence.
However, League Managers' Association chief John Barnwell said: "They can't do it - it's as simple as that."
FA Premier League rules state that anyone without the Pro Licence can only take charge of a club for 12 weeks.
But the 20 club chairmen who make up the leagues shareholders voted to waive them last month to allow Roeder to be named Newcastle boss because of the unique and extenuating circumstances of his case.
Gibson has actively been canvassing his counterparts in recent days despite stern resistance from the LMA, who also vehemently opposed Roeder's application for dispensation.
Gibson set out his arguments - which also include Southgate's record of service, his inability to acquire all his coaching qualifications because of his international career and the club's willingness to allow McClaren to take up the England job despite signing a long-term contract.
Chief executive Keith Lamb told the club website: "Middlesbrough and Gareth should not suffer because he has had such a successful career at club and international level.
"Until recently Gareth has spent his summers serving his country as a player.
"It makes little sense that such players should be denied rare opportunities like the one he now has simply because he hasn't had the chance to gain the qualifications.
"Why not allow players of such ilk the chance to gain their badges while doing the job rather than making them wait?
If they wanted to appoint a senior figure who did have the qualifications and who would come in and show Gareth the ropes then that would be a different matter
John Barnwell
"It is no coincidence that many of the current crop of good young managers did not actually play at the highest level, so were able to concentrate on gaining coaching qualifications while many top stars were playing for their country.
"If that continues, the natural conclusion is that most top British managers will have no experience of international football."
Barnwell had previously stated that Middlesbrough's efforts to appoint the 35-year-old Southgate had been blocked.
"My understanding is that Middlesbrough have had lengthy discussions with the Premier League over the weekend and they have been flatly refused," he said.
"Southgate may be working towards becoming a coach but he hasn't got the qualifications to do the job."
The LMA chief executive admits Boro could use a loophole by appointing assistant manager Steve Round - who does have a Pro Licence - to work with Southgate.
"If they wanted to appoint a senior figure who did have the qualifications and who would come in and show Gareth the ropes, then that would be a different matter," Barnwell added.
"But Steve Round and Steve Harrison are not members of the LMA so they would not get our backing - even though they do have the right badges."
Boro chairman Steve Gibson however, is keen to push ahead with attempts to appoint Southgate.
Terry Venables turned down the chance to return to the Riverside as Middlesbrough boss two weeks ago prompting Gibson to turn his attention to Southgate.

Obviously Pete's got a more reliable source of info...
