My mate is setting up a 6 a side football team
My mate has decided to set up a 6 a side football team playing on astro turf, we are going to have our first practice/kick about tonight. We had 12 people lined up and so far 2 people have dropped out!! I havn't played football since I was at school (nearly 26 now) and wasn't one of the kids that was good! I can occasionally do a flukey shot though! I used to be pretty fast though, so will soon see if I still am!! Mainly doing it for a laugh and to keep fit, I already go to the gym. I suppose we'll soon find out whos actually good/fit and really interested in playing!!

lol when I left school at 16 I stopped playing football, I was pretty good, just wasnt very quick which let me down since I always wanted to play right wing. Anyway when I was 24 I decided I was going to join a sunday league team. 2 Years on and Im still struggling to get fitness back. I can run for 90minutes but Monday and Tuesday my legs ache constantly. Although whilst the season has finished this year Ive been playing 5 a side and its twice as demanding IMO for fitness although Im getting there with running once a week Im hoping my 11 a side football will considerably improve for the coming season (first friendly this coming sunday ) You're gonna be knackered.

As long as everyone else is I don't care! I'm a lot fitter than most of them so I should look pretty **** hot!! I can see quite a few not coming again!
Just started raining too, which is nice!! See how many more drop out!!

rain is the best time to play IMO, keeps you cool. Last thing you want is to be sweatling like a pig after 2 minutes, even when your the goalie

you'll ache like a bastid for about 3 days
best advice - warm up properly. you're not a spring chicken anymore
when a few of us started up last year you could hear the groins and hamstrings popping as someone runs from the car to the pitch and larrups the ball with stone cold muscles
great fun, you'll be surprised how quick you get a bit of fitness and speed back (that's if anyone turns up next time that is!!)

Only 9 people turned up! Only 2 people had the proper footwear on, the rest of us were falling left, right and centre! I'm definatley not as fit as I thought I was! Although only 1 person really stood out as been fit enough to play! My ankles are killing me now as well!
Everyones up for coming back next week though! Think I'll invest in some astro turf trainers too! For £20 I can't really complain, they may stop me from falling over, I can't comment on my performance though!!

I would definitely get the footwear, I got some last week in a JJB sale for £30.
I play 5 a side a couple of times a week and get on ok (apart form being **** at football) but want to work on my pace over the first ten yards.
It's good fun and keeps you in shape.

Stick at it... at 26 you can mprove and have a good few years enjoying it. I'm 29 and I've played since I was 8 or so. I'll be gutted when I have to quit. I love my 90 mins on a Sat. I honestly feel like a kid when I play. Nothing else in the world or my life matters. It's a great escape and I still get a buzz from playing. You'll be surprised how quick you get used to playing again. Say a month.... however as you age the aches stay for a lot longer!!

STI, got to agree on the feeling of playing 11 a side. Not once have I ever thought about any of my worries when playing. 90minutes of peace. Its like being back at school again

I'm still playing at 34, 5 a-side on a Wednesday and 11 a-side every other Sunday when the season starts.
I can only do excersise if I'm chasing a round thing
My only advice is try to join a league that plays on the rubber filled astroturf rather than the rock hard sand filled stuff - especially if your legs aren't used to running at all!

the little bits of rubber go EVERYWHERE and has been the cause of a few rows about me being tidy in the past!

My game is in jeopardy tomorrow night!
Can't get booked, had a nice game in the rain on tuesday night where my grippy new astro boots proved their worth!
back to wonderful british summer rain

Had training again last night. Made two mistakes... the first was eating before I went. the second was getting there late andhaving to join in the sprints from almost cold. The next 5 mins were spent trying to keep down what I'd just eaten!
Once I got through that I enjoyed it as the rain made the turf great for zipping passes.
My fitness is still a fair way off what I would want to start the season as.

9 months later and we're still playing on a Wednesday night, times keep changing depending on if we can get a decent slot. Still no system just turn up and split in to two depending on what we're wearing.
My mate has just put a team toghether though and we've put our application in.
This is the league:
.:: Football Mundial ::.
Lost a few people along the way who decided it was too competitive etc. We'll still be playing on a ednesday aswell though.
