Default MY00 Impreza UK Turbo 2000

After a lot of thought I've come to the realisation that it needs to go

A bit of back story.. I bought the car in October 2013 with the intention of using it for weekends as I lived close enough to work to walk/cycle. I looked at a few from all over the north of the country looking for the right one before settling with this one. I drove it for about 2 months (not even 1,000 miles) then gave it a good clean and tucked it away in a garage over winter. As luck would have it I lost my job and had to take a job 40 miles away which has left me with little time or energy to get it back on the road since. To top it off since a week ago I'm unable to keep it in the garage it was in, so it is now sat in my yard.

So, I've decided to sell it on to fund a career change (into HGV driving) as I will never have the time and spare income to enjoy this car.

Now, the bad bits first..

1. The car, as with most UK Impreza's, has a problem with rust:
  • rear near-side suspension turret needs welding (see photo)
  • off-side rear arch needs attention - possibly cut back and a new arch welded in
  • near-side rear arch could do with a rub down and respray (few small bubbles)
I've had a quote of £350 for this work, but as I've said I don't have the time for spare income at the moment for it. Could be done in a few hours if you're handy with a welder and/or paint. If I could do it myself I'd value the car at well over £2,000.

2. No MOT or Tax. I'm fairly confident that with the suspension turret welded up it will sail through an MOT. At its last MOT it passed with no advisories. The car is less than 2 miles from an MOT testing station and a post office so could be done the same day as you buy it, otherwise it will need towing away.

3. The car was a Cat C write-off a few years ago. When the previous owner had it someone poured paint stripper over it. As the car was 10 years old and insurance companies are fickle, they under valued the car and wrote it off. He bought it back and used the money to give the car a full respray. The car is straight and true so I have no reason to dispute it. And as such the general condition of the paint is very good.

*phew* on to the good bits..

  • STi fog covers
  • STi 7/8 interior - very good condition

  • STi mudflaps
  • Spare wheel with good tyre + original jack and kit
The car is always given a minute to warm up before being driven and low revs until the engine is at full operating temperature, and driven off turbo for a few miles before home to cool down.
It has never over-heated, had any smoke, failed to start, etc. Engine runs perfect and starts first time every time, and gets up to temperature and idles correctly.. No tapping or rattling, etc.

Boosts correctly and pulls hard through all gears, and brakes straight and quickly. Handles like it is on rails and is quick to pick up at an revs.

I can't explain how much I miss driving this car, I always drove it with confidence and no worry of what could go wrong, etc which is more than I could say for performance cars half the age.

I am pricing the car at a sensible £1600 or make me an offer! Cash only, no part-ex (sorry).

Although it is a solid car and runs 100% it does need attention. As previously said, I looked at a few before deciding to buy this one, based on how well it runs/performs. It is just a crying shame it needs a bit money spent on it otherwise I'd be selling it for much more.

I can be contacted via private message on here or on my mobile via call or text (07500773067) at any time, however before 5pm you may need to leave a message and I'll get back to you.

Car is located in County Durham (DH9).

Why not? Cat C means next to nothing on a 14 year old car, how much do you reckon an insurance company would value it at? Haha

Alright then Mike Brewer, how much would you prefer me to sell it for?

My old impreza, was mint when I traded it in 4 years ago.

Would love it back but too much work involved for me I think.

Good luck with the sale mate, hope it goes to a good home.

When I first bought it I spent ages looking on here for it in all the photo albums and photo threads haha.

It's a lovely car to be honest, there's no evidence it's been badly kept just it's 14 year old so bound to happen.
I'm going to miss it haha, I know for a fact I'll of bought another one within a year
