Rear struts for a 2000 Subaru Forester
Hi..
I'm new to the world of Subaru, but I've been given the job of replacing the rear struts on my mother's 2000 Subaru Forester (Non-turbo)
I've done some reading about SLS struts or "regular" ones, so i decided to remove the left rear wheel..
Spring Colour: Red
Strut Colour: Black (NOT Lime-Green)
Strut/shock Absorber part nr: Tokico 2A17510-B
I also did a VIN-check, which told me the car was equipped with NORMAL suspension..
But still, can anyone verify the part nr, so I do not order the wrong one ?
with Regards

Hi Sturia, there's a wealth of info on this in the Euro section over on the Forester owners forum. THIS thread would be a good place to start but there are many more if you search.
Hope that helps. Regards, Dai

Iv'e read pretty much all there is on different Subaru forums. But I can't find the part nr of the shock currently fitted to the car.. (Tokico 2A17510-B).. It's mentioned on some Russian,French, and Polish Subaru sites.. but Google translator makes no sense.. ;-)

First off the red colour spring would suggest aftermarket.
Tokico are now part of Hitachi Automotive.
A VIN check will show "NORMAL" for all suspensions whether SLS or not.
If you want, PM me your VIN and I can check the DB to see if it's obvious one way or the other.
Pictures also help at times like this.

VIN : JF1SF5LJ4YG069370

Cars is equipped with rear Drum Brakes, So I assume it's a Base Model ?
(non-turbo, manual, 15 " wheels)

Rear struts OEM specific to your vehicle..................
Actual application against part number.........
REAR RIGHT - item2
REAR LEFT - item2
Your Mother's car originally came with SLS rear suspension.
Usually SLS springs are quite thin (top) with few turns compared to non SLS( bottom).
The red springs in this pic are custom made by Springcoil UK in Sheffield for the SG conversion to non SLS.

Checking what springs are fitted maybe a further indicator to what version (SLS/nonSLS) is currently fitted..............

Thanks alot Don.. For all your info and time.. I have 3 options ..
1. Call the previous owner, and ask politely for any Info on rear Suspension mod's
2. Order "ordinary" Struts ( a gamble)
3. Order a complete Strut Kit from Pedders: http://www.pedders.co.uk/subaru-fore..._p22538554.htm
I will, however, have another look on the Strut to check for "thickness" in coils..
