Default Classic Impreza HSD Monopro coilovers

Hi all,

I've just fitted some HSD Monopro coilovers to my GC8 Subaru today. I wound them quite low to see how it would look and then took it for a drive..... And now the ride is shockingly bad even with the dampers to full soft. No suspension travel it seems when pushing down on the car from the outside.

Spring rates F: 7Kg/mm
R: 5Kg/mm

I'm thinking maybe it's all the ARB's etc etc that will need undoing and then re tightening once at the correct level to prevent stress?

What preload have you set on the springs?

The only preload I set is just by winding the collar up to the spring so that it didn't move around, so basically not much. When pushing on the wings of the car or inside the boot for leverage, the car barely moves down.

This is as if you are on the bump stops all the time. That cant be the case as the springs barely compress as the car is lowered off the jack. That's why I thought maybe some rubber bushings were stopping something as it was getting tight when I wound the shock tube into the bottom mount.

Little update, Installed 5Kg/mm fronts and 4Kg/mm on the rear and the ride is still really harsh. Does lowering the car make the control arms tight, as in make the bushes tight?

I had hsd coilovers, not sure which ones, the more expensive I think. Admitadly they were old and came on the car. Couldn't wait to get them off. Depending what your after I have standard kyb shocks with eibach springs. There is body roll but I actually prefer it.
