Hi there,
My STi7 has been bloody knocking from the passenger rear side for the last 5 months (since I owned it) and I have read various threads about this.
Anyhow, I had it booked into my dealer today and they looked at it and informed me that Subaru UK are aware of this problem and now have an official fix for it, and will order the kit so it will be in next week.
Result !
So, all you owners out there with this annoying knock (sub - 40mph) get on down to your dealer and it will be sorted.

when I collect it today, I'll ask the techie's exactly what the problem and the cure are.

The knock is from passenger rear side suspension. Only seems to happen below 40mph.
Was harder to hear once the PPP had been done though.

I for one would really love to know what this "Official Fix" actually is.
If you do a search in here for the knocking thread, you will see that a lot of us are sick to death of Subaru UK.
I've had 5 so called fixes, all without sucess. There's another chap (who I shant name at the moment) with even more fixes applied than me.
Sorry mark, not shooting the messenger and all that, but I would be inclined to say "Official Fix My Backside"

Hi Shaun,
I'll post again later, but I am collecting the car today (not fixed) but will ask what they are ordering for me (to be fitted next week) and rest assured that I will report back here once it has been fitted and let you all know if the knock has gone away or not.

I had the "official fix" 3weeks ago which entailed new spring , new top mount and plastic sleeve around the lower coils of the spring .It doesnt work .Prior to this I had the rear strut replaced 3 or 4 times - Ive lost count at this stage.

And I collected my car today and it is FIXED too !!!!!
NO MORE KNOCKING NOISES :-)
There was a part missing from the kit, but I had a curtosy car anyway so it didn't matter anyway.
Well done Sparshatt's for a speady turnaround..

I have a similar problem with MY03 WRX, nearside rear clunk at slowish speeds. Dealer is suggesting replacing both rear strut top mounts only.
So what did the dealer fit to fix yours ?
Cheers

I didn't get any paperwork, but I did see the tech note from Subaru when they confirmed that I needed the fix.
I saw that the kit consisted of new top mounts and new struts. can't remember what else it said. I think they replaced about 5 parts.
When I first took my car in with the clunk and they confirmed it, they left a Subaru technical bulletin in my car so I kept this.
Tech Bulletin 4-4A-048
subject: creaking/rattling sound from nsr suspension area
model: wrx sti type uk
would dealers please note, if a customer returns his vehicle with a concern appertaining to the above, prior to suspecting and replacing the suspension strut, please follow the instrcutions given below:
1. ensure boot lid hinges and torsion bars are correctly fastened
2. remove the rear seat lower and upper squabs, after removal, check the four bolts situated in the vertical bars arounf the 'ski' hatch to ensure they are secured correctly.
3. confirm that the torison bar mounted under the lower seat squab is tight and not fouling the body when flexing
4. ensure seat belt mountings are tightened correctly
PJA: I suggest getting your car booked into your dealer for investigation...

Just thought I'd give you all an update since having the knock fixed.
Well, since having the 'fix' I'm pleased to report that I have not heard one knock noise from the rear suspension at all.
Well done Subaru.
