Best route with suspension?????????
#1
I am currently looking to change the handling on my scooby.
I thought Eibachs, ARB, Droplinks, Strut brace and ALK.
I am also adding 17 inch wheels and uprated discs and pads.
Can anyone advise if this is a good starting combination, or should I look at other things as well.
Also are fitting the springs relatively straight forward, or best left to a garage.
All help much appreciated.
Thanks
Julian

Fitting springs is relatively straight forward if you've got the tools and a little bit of mechanicing experience. (Not a lot needed )
Tools are along the lines of a decent socket set & spanners, set of spring compressors and some axle stands.
The front camber is adjustable based on eccentric bolts on the bottoms of the struts, mark them so you get them back approximately correctly... Then think carefully about getting a wheel alignment check done. In fact mark everything on the struts before you take them apart, as it all has to line up properly, or it'll make awful knocking noises.
What you're proposing doesn't sound too bad. Personally I'd not have an ALK, but it all depends on the roads you use the car on.
I have 17" rims, solid droplinks all round, 4 pots, WRX springs and front strut brace on my MY96 turbo - so not too different to what you're thinking about.
The springs are a bit on the hard side for the really rough roads (plenty round my area), but it doesn't try to throw you in the hedge if you catch a pothole like some cars I've been in.
I plan to put a slightly thicker roll bar on the rear soon.

I have a MY00 with:
Whiteline droplinks all round,
Whiteline rear ARB
Eibachs
Bumpsteer mod
Powerstation geometry
All of the above (apart from droplinks) was done at Powerstation in Cheltenham.
I am very pleased with the results. Far less understeer and roll.

I would also say that if you drive a 'classic' a proper geometry set up and the bumpsteer mod are almost essential.
Try a search for bumpsteer if you are not familiar.

JT, hI.
Dont know where in the North East you are but if your near Boro then you could try
Town And Country Tyres and Zorsts on 01642 456093.
or
Falcon Engineering on 01642 469732.
Had geom reset twice now by T & C and they appear to have done the job right for my Leg T.
Was going to use Falcon next time I need it to see what they're like.
Hope this helps.
