Huge difference....

Dials out a huge amount of understeer and makes the car feel so much more solid under heavy braking

Also makes it a wee bit tail happy with the increased grip at the front....

Now.. when you say up North... just what do you mean

Yes, it's worthwhile but it's only Powerstation that do it, AFAIK.

Definitely worth doing, transformed my car. Better turn in , less understeer etc.,.. Consider the anti lift kit and uprated springs too.

Definitely worth the trip to Powerstation

Regards

Can't recommend it enough....

It's like a new car. I didn't really have to many issues with the handling before the mod but I could definatley not go back now makes the handling standard seem like an old dog

I had my MY94 STI done at Powerstation. It always felt as though the front end was not gripping well and the front tyres were wearing seriously on the inside edges. This was with the correct toe in.

Powerstation did the whole suspension setup as well as removing the bumpsteer. You can stand and watch and they explain exactly what they are doing. The difference in the car was noticeable as I steered onto the main road leaving the place. The front end now hangs on,less lock is needed and the front tyres wear evenly. I have no problem with the back end, the car will drift under perfect control and feels very safe and predictable. I use F1 tyres. The handling in the wet is also superb. The cost of the job can soon be recovered by the extra miles you get from the front tyres. Worth fitting the solid roll bar links too, only the rear ones required for an STI.

I had the geometry done at TSL - along with eibach springs - totally transformed the car.

Then had bumpsteer mod done at powerstation - wow, you can just throw it into tight corners and the front end just seems to want to turn in precisely. It's very chuckable on the road, very balanced on the track. Deffo worth doing..

I have a STI/Type R by the way

Went to Subaru dealer in Derby and they hadn't got a clue what the bumpsteer mod is! Can someone explain in Laymans terms please.

Subaru dealers won't know what your talking about. Powerstation are the only people who do the Bumpsteer mod, it was developed by them. It's not just a geometry setup, they actually put shims in the steering rack to lower it down, this stops the wheels toeing out under hard cornering and braking, then they do a full four wheel geometry setup to stupidly close tolerances. I couldn't believe the difference it made to my Scoob, power-understeer is nearly completely eraddicated, the front end just sticks to a line and you can induce lovely four-wheel drifts under power, rather than just understeering. I'm going to get the Antilift kit and solid drop-links fitted next.

When placing th ecoilover system I eliminated a part of the bumpsteer due to lowering of the car (about 3/4 inch), and I must say that you really feel the difference, less understeer, stabl ride, tail happy.
When the car was up the ramp the other day I noticed that the steering arms where horizontal, before the coilover system they were pointing a little down...

The Bumpsteer mod costs £140 all in.

The anti-lift kit is designed to decrease front end lift under acceleration, reducing power understeer. It cosists of replacement wishbone mounts that change the geometry of the front wheels to give more castor. Weather it actually reduces lift or not is a bit controvertial, but it reduces understeer and dramatically improves steering feel by all accounts.

Solid drop-links are solid metal replacements for the standard rubber anti-roll bar drop-links(the things that connect the anti-roll bar to the car). Solid drop-links improve steering response and 'turn in'.

Thanks for the explanation, much appreciated..
It just so happens i'm looking at a car in the 'for sale' section that has the Bumpsteer mod with Eibach springs.

Cheers John

I am considering the bump steer mod at ps also.

how long does it take to carry out and do you need to have the geometry set up again?

cheers

I don't recall how long the mod took, but Powerstation perform a geometry setup in conjunction. I don't think they'd offer to do the bumpsteer mod without a geometry setup.

So PS do a geometry set up as part of the bumpsteer mod then?

Sounds a good deal.

If I recall correctly you can either have a geometry setup or you can have bumpsteer + geometry. I don't think you can (or would want to) have the bumpsteer mod without a geometry setup afterwards.
