Just about enuff money in my account for my next Mod
I have been toying with the suspension type fettle for a while now and can't make my mind up.
I have learnt over the past few months that it is a futile exercise to ask a dealer or someone who has just spent a small fortune on a mod, wether it has improved the car. The answer is always YES. So you go get the things done and the mod ain't all it's been cracked up to be.
I'm sure that you'd all agree with me, it'd be great if we could try before you buy some of these things (Downpipes, Springs, Filters, DV's, chips etc) but the reality is that you can't!
Therefore, can anyone who has/is:
a) Tried Eibachs
b) Has had them fitted for more than 1000 miles
c) Contemplating them
d) Tried them and has a better alternative
Let me know your thoughts and experiences.
Kind Regards
Gridlock Mikey

I'm also planning to have Eibachs fitted on my RB5. I've looked into Leda and the Prodrive option and for the type of driving I normally do (rush hour) I can't justify the cost of either of the two above. However, Eibach springs only I can. You can get then fitted by TN for £235. I plan to get mine fitted next month along with my new Defi gauges.
I understand that the ride is only a bit harder then normal which I believe is hardly noticeable but the improvement in handling is. They also lower the car by about 20mm. They should make quite a difference on track days.
Anyone else have any opinions?

Hi there,
I had the Eibach Pro spring kit fitted about a month ago (along with an HKS SuperPower flow induction kit).
The car looks fantastic, just that little bit lower without looking silly. The ride is slightly harder but nothing that's going to bother the average Impreza driver. The handling is great though - and that's before I have the Prodrive geometry next month - much taughter through bends, much more confident on a country lane.
If you're not in a position to go for the full upgrade (as I wasn't) then this is a really good choice.
Hope this helps
Laurence

Mikey,
my eibachs have been on for about 8000 miles now and I am very pleased with them.
The only downside I have is that they are not upto the job on track, but if you're not planning many then go on....you won't look back.

I had just the Eibachs on a my99, and then Eibachs/Koni's on a my00.
Eibachs by themselves actually improved ride quality for me (less banging/crashing), as well as handling.

Mikey, I put Eibachs on then drove to Englandshire (Powerstation) and had the Bump and Geometry done. The combination transforms the car, much more stable/predictable in high speed bends.

Mikey, do you think your question has been answered to your satisfaction in the affirmative then...
Just to add to the pile, I was so impressed with the two Scoobs I've driven with Eibachs that I have my car booked in at Powerstation in a couple of weeks...

Deep, the two cars in question were a (Jap) WRX and an STi RA - I'll know what they are like on a UK in a couple of weeks too (if you're interested....)

Well,Well,Well!!
Its good to see so many enjoying the benefits
of an alternative to the established trend!
14k up on my my01 and no complaints so far.
i would like to know if anybody has experience of a my01 fitted with the spring/shock kit from the likes of Leda etc. and how do they compare.
Obviously, there is a difference of approximately 1,400 quid.I would just like to know if it is worth it.I'm not going to change anyway.
I'm positively delighted with my set up!

Sorry to hijack the thread.
Will these springs be OK with 17" wheels. The reason I ask is that I know it lowers the ride height etc, but I still want to be able to carry passengers and don't wnat any knocking noises, grounding out if the car is lower than standard
Am I being overly concerned
Cheers
Kwack

The wheel size should not matter as the overall diameter of the wheel + tyre should (theoretically - not quite in practice), be the same.
All the cars I've driven with Eibachs had 17's BTW....

I have posted on the virtues of Eibachs many times but in answer to some of the points:
Mo: "they are not up to it on the track"
I'm not sure what you mean by this but you seem to be suggesting that a set of well balanced "fast road" springs aren't as good as a specialist track setup? If you mean that Eibach springs alone aren't as good as an adjustable Leda spring/damper combination then you are right, but on the plus side, they will cost you about a grand less.
Also consider how "up to the job" standard springs would be in comparison...
Kwack: They are fine with 17" wheels as long as the offset hasn't been unduly altered.
Deep Singh: Fitting of Eibach springs or any other make for that matter will require the geometry to be reset as you have to remove the struts, causing all alignment to be lost.
There isn't any "difference" in geometry though.
Mine incidentally is an STi4 and I have had the springs fitted for about 18 months now.
It is the best mod I done (especially pound for pound) and the stiffer damper rates of the STi's Bilsteins make Eibachs particularly suited to STis.
The only other improvement I had in handling since fitting Eibachs was going to 17" wheels which in fact took some of the harshness out of the ride (!!??) and improved turn in amazingly, even on inferior tyres (went from 16 SO2's to 17" Falkens).
Neil.
Edited to remove my comment about LEDAs rattling as I been assured that this problem has been completely resolved and only affected a few cars anyway.

James,
try Xtreme in Harlow.
Neil, please take this in the right context
My post was my opinion and yes you are quite correct in saying that you are saving over a grand but I wasn't talking about cost.
I had the standard UK suspension which was crap. Changed to STiV type R struts with Eibachs and the difference for £300 was amazing. Very very good on our roads.
However, I am not happy with this kit on track so I'm going to try the AVO kit (as it's about £650).
The point of my post was to let Mikey know my thoughts/comments as he had asked for. Ofcourse every one is of their own opinion.

Mmmh, that probably read a bit harsher than it was mean't....
I was actually sort of agreeing with your observation and also pointing out the relative benefits/downsides.
I'll get me coat.

Hi guys,
I've just bought me a set of Eibach springs from NewAgeMotorsport. Cost £115 + delivery. They've just arrived this afternoon, but I'll hopefully get them fitted over the weekend.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Stefan

For those of us who don't have very deep pockets ( I knew what I was getting myself into before I got the car before anyone says anything )
Would it be ok if I were to have the Eibachs fitted one month then head off to Power Station the month after to get the geometry (and bump steer - yum yum) done? Or would this long delay destroy the tyres due to incorrect geometry?
Matt
