exe-tc coilovers
Anyone running a set from exe-tc? I'm looking at their Fast Road kit or Fast Road/Track. It doesn't sound like they ride to smooth on the day to day stretches. Any one running a set?

There are several people making top flight systems now, and bit like buying a car, you get what you pay for, and you also look at the party you are buying from; service, reputation, credability etc.
I bought some cheap (well, £600) AVO's and they turned out to be rubbish.
Now on AST's.
I race against someone with EXE's and he is very happy, and another on Bilsteins and he is happy too! All Impreza's.

Yes RCMS is selling them. I am unfamiliar with them but the cred people seem to give RCMS makes me interested in them. Their project cars are silly fast. We don't have a exe-tc distributer but they said they'd deal direct and RCMS would probably ship them too. They seem to be pretty affordable given their design. I've also looked at Bilsteins, Motons and AST's. Looking for something in the upper tier and these are affordable and exe seems really great on customer service so far.

Not a worry friend. I think 1500 is pretty affordable. That gets you the Adjustable Fast Road kit. I looked at the AST's and Moton's also. They also look nice. A bit more money but very nice. The Bilsteins look good too but I think I might want something a bit more aggressive than what they will deliver. I'm looking into the AST's and the Moton's still and also looking at the exe-tc Fast Road & Track kit which gets you independent height adjustment and spring load. Features I was hoping to get. Not sure I'm looking for something that serious however. NVH is kind of an issue as the car will see mostly track but also some canyon drives and needs to be girlfriend approved. Which is difficult in Los Angeles.

Without doubt, the car is really well prepped, very quick, and handles well, but let's not forget it also has a professional race driver at the wheel !
I'm not knocking the AST's, just putting things into context.

Yeah it's a pretty sick car. My hesistation with AST tho is the lack up customer support in the US. Most vendors have tried carrying their line but will not recommend them unless the car is full tilt and the customer understands how much of a headache it can be to get AST to warranty or repair their coilovers.

let me guess - you started looking into these after you saw the gobspopper, right?
I've been researching this suspension myself for a long time, and am probably saving for the fast road/track as it's ideal for what I do, plus 180mm of shock travel is great, as the my car is out team rally car and sees a lot of gravel and abuse
it's interesting..... the fast road kit, looks identical to my current suspension - hotbits rally DT1... or more appropriately to say, my suspension looks identical to exe-tc so I know what they were looking at when they were designing it

Nasioc pretty often actualy Too bad if it's not mainstream everyone hates on it there. Everyone on nasioc has unanamously agreed that if you want coilovers you either needs Cusco, Tein or KW's. If you want springs you want Prodrives and if you want a turbo you're either getting it from Deadbolt or you're getting a GT30. The lack of outside information is astonishing. Anything outside "the norm" and you're asking for trouble. *sigh*

This was a company I hadn't yet heard of and they seem to have a good affordable product. Obviously you must find fault on your Hotbits suspension. Are you saying the DT1 kit and the Fast Road kit are one in the same or just similar in appearance? Def update once you get the Fast Road & Track kit. I'm teetering between the FR kit and the FR&T kit at this point. I think AST is out of the question due to lack of a stateside presence. Moton is still an option but unsure of part, support etc.

The Exe-tc fast road dampers are (were ?) derived from the Hotbits so its no accident they look similar. Its the unseen bits inside that really count though and these are supposed to be all Exe-TC.

If you're really into handling, and want to make sure you get the right suspension (within a budget) here are a couple of questions it's worth asking,
1) Can they be stripped, and rebuilt locally, at least in the same country (many can't even be stripped and re-built, let alone locally).
2) If not locally, are you prepared to wait maybe several weeks to get it back, and the cost of international shipping ?
3) Changing springs is easy, but can they be easily re-valved if they turn out to be really unsuitable ?
4) What's the attitude of the person you're asking the questions to ?
Don't buy into a "brand", buy what will give you the right results !

I completely agree. I'm still waiting for a response on an email asking those questions. My first email from them said they were hoping to branch into the United States. Also inquired about rebuilds, cost and turn around time. It's been 5 days and haven't heard back from anyone at the company. [ yay ]
It kind of makes me sad to see they are just revalved/sprung Hot Bits coilovers. I was hoping for a design completely tailored to the application. It also doesn't help there is very limited info on their website. Not that it means much as AST has VERY little info on their site and they make a great coilover.
I may be going back to the drawing board as it were.

Exe-tc know exactly what they are doing, and very much specialise on Subaru, along with the Evo, and Porsche.

That is good to know, and I will keep that in mind. What model are you running currently of the exe-tc brand? What were you running prior to these coilovers? Or can you say. Mabbe PM if you'd rather not discuss in an open forum.

I run the RS03 series, with the top mounts. This is the "fast Road & Track" version, and my set has been valved, & sprung very much for the track.

I just know that when I drove the car after the Exe-tc had been fitted, and set up, it was the first time I started to feel comfortable with the car. With the previous set up, it just never instilled confidence in me.
I'll ask Steven Darley to give his impressions, since he has spent more time driving it than I have, and knows the old set up too.

Mark, Thanks for your input on the other matter.
How is the Fast Road & Track kit on the streets of a town? I assuming they are just too harsh. I drove around on JIC FLTA2's that were valved for the Japanese domestic market and they were just too much for me to handle. I would assume it must be similar to that. Don't get me wrong, the JIC's would seriously handle like crazy just wasn't the kind of ride I was looking for. Japanese dampers feel way different that euro dampers.
Do you think one could drive on the Fast Road & Track and be girlfriend approved?
