Knocking on Front, Classic
My 93 WRX seems to have a knocking noise on the front, has been there a while but havent bothered to ask about it. It sounds like an ARB knocking and only occurs when one wheel goes over a bump. Some things I can think of...
I have Whiteline 22mm adjustable front anti roll bar so the bushes are new with standard ball joint drop links and was woundering if these can cause the knocking?
You can see how far the ARB moves from side to side but I'm not sure how much movement is normal but there does seem alot, almost enough for the sadles to hit the right angle bend on the bar yet no obvious play in the suspension, any Ideas?
The bar also goes under a plate thing that had to be removed to fit the new bar and the new bar seems very close to catching this plate, looks like there are some slight marks on it where it has caught too, but cant see this causing a knocking as it looks like its scraped rather than banged, but the whiteline ARB is straight where as the standard had some bend in it to make the clearance greater, so is mine right?
Please read... I know its long
Any help or info about your own experiances on this please.
Gaz

Is there any way I can tell if their worn?
Any one know if whiteline do replacement front drop links for the aluminum wish bones? I think their STi ones?
Thanks,
Gaz

I would say it is the drop link.
Whiteline do the perfectly good steel ones (similar design to their rears). Fit those.
the lateral float of the bar in the bushes is normal.
The close proximity to the front subframe skid/jack plate is normal, mine has no more than 3 mm clearance.
The Whiteline front bars are straight, can't remember the shape of the stock bar!
New drop links I think.

I'd go with the drop links first as it's a relatively cheap fix.
The last time I had a front end knock like you describe though - one side, on bumps only - it only disappeared when I replaced the struts.
