New Age Sub Frame
Was up at Andy Forrest's on Friday and he had his car up on the lift. I always wanted to have a good look at it so I thought I'd have a look around and WOW, wont sy to much but its pretty good stuff, love the exhaust set up. Anyway, I noticed the front subframes had been removed so I asked if it had any other modifications to remove the subframes and he replied "no, they are only there to satisfy EC regulations and strengthen the front end up in case of impact".
So, to my question to you guys is, has anybody on here removed their front subframes from there impreza and have they noticed any differance with the car?
Thanks,
Nick.

Hiya Graham,
Yea maybe I do, he still has the cross member fitted where the bottom arms come off but the 2 front to back peices have gone. Looks so much neater without them and easier to work on.
Maybe they are called the chassis leg frames?
Have you removed yours?

Certainly not!
I know what you mean now.
Andy has roached-out all the waste front sections for his racer to give space and access.
I do not need the access and as a full road spec car I (might) need the crumple zones on my car.

Well its off at the moment
I'll be puuting it back on once I've done a couple a hundred miles and my anti-lift kit has settle so I can check the bolts again easily.
Handles great with it off mind, or is that the anti-lift kit?????
Having said what you have, did you know the Spec C has that same subframe removed from the factory to reduce overall weight with no other modifications? Hmm.........
It will be goin back on though, dont worry, my wife and kids are worth to much to me

Yes,
You have the cross member that the engine sits on and the bottom arms attatch to, then there is this huge lump of metal (which is actually quite light considering its size ) that if you imagine it starts at the passengers feet, has 2 bolts there, 1 near the rear bottom arm mount, 2 on the cross member, 1 on the front chassis leg, 1 on the front cross member, and then the same down the other side. Its all one peice.
It is something to do with crash zones but Subaru being Subaru, its probably designed to take 140mph impacts .
