Steering rack bushes

Steering rack bushes
Having read a few threads here and on 22B.com I'm going to change the rack bushes and remove the bumpsteer mod from my car in an attempt to cure the creaking that set in a year or so ago.
Is it an easy job? Are the bushes split or do they have to be passed over the tie rods? Apologies for the obvious ignorance but I have yet to have a look as my trolley jack is still holding up my old Guzzi!

did mine a few weeks back, it was easier to fit the bushes and remove my bumpsteer mod then it was to fit the bumpsteer mod in the first place
slacken steering uj pinch bolt,
drop steering rack mounts, remove "bumpsteer" parts and steering rack bushes
fit new steering rack bushes (i fitted whiteline) and tighten everything back up
takes 30 mins max, although i did do mine on a nice 4 post ramp

Well, that was a pain in the ****. I had trouble moving the rack sufficiently to get the RH shim out, despite loosening UJ pinch bolt. Lying on my back under the car and pulling every muscle in my upper arms didn't help though!
I couldn't find my four post ramp !
For anyone searching for this problem however........ if you have had the bumpsteer mod and have creaky steering - particularly noticeable at low speed and just off straight ahead - remove the shims and you WILL solve your problem.

That side is a real pain i remember 4 years ago suffering the same issue..
When Power Station did my AST/alignment in the early days, the car was tested for any bump steer (and mods if needed)
The geometry was absolutly spot-on and not changes needed.
This had occured before on one lowered classic, and in my case the rack spacer thickness was the reason for the accuracy. Mine were Yellow Whiteline type.
