Default Loose **** on AST coilovers

I lifted the bonnet at work to removed the leafs blown through the scoop and when I looked at my O/S/F coilover **** (cap or what ever it is) it is loose and on a higher thread than the opposite site (N/S/F).

I recently paid Curtis at Powerstaion a visit as the same side that is loose required a refurb. A top bloke and job Curtis did too may I add.

Because it was dark I didn't want to fart around with it. Do they also have a Alan key nut too to tighten them? Maybe thats all it needs?

Maybe Mr 911 can assist me sir?

If this doesn't make any sense at all please feel free to tell me.

Steve

I had one of my lower control ***** come 'free' of the internal mechanism ( I have AST 3 ways). The One -Way (top adjust only) are the same. The gold **** is retained by an allen grub screw iirc.

I found mine loose just as i was checking the car before an alignment with Curtis, so left it to him to fix which he did, but pretty sure the fix was very simple. All other adjusters are tight.

If the **** cannot be tightened, then it is back to AST for an internal fix.

Thank you kind sir Mr 911. Top man.

Its a bugger that it will be dark again by the time I get to have a look. Would you thing I'd need to wound it to the same thread as on the O/S/N/F then use an allen key to tighten it up?

Cheers
Steve

No, I would think you simply need to tighten the grub screw tight (if it is still in the ****).
It might screw down onto a small flat machined onto the shaft, so you could actually remove it to see first by torch(?)

Graham.

I have the same fault on one off mine (NSF i think)

Last time i was in Powerstation for a Geometry set up i mention this to Curtis and his reply was not to worry as pretty normal

Is normally not the nurled **** loose on the shaft but the whole shaft moving due to a collor worn IIRC inside strut itself

Hope this helps

Great choice on coilovers tho

Turning the **** will obviously adjust the damping disks inside the damper. The AST's are designed with a 'click' detent to allow you to count the damping positions and to prevent them from moving over time. Dead important.

Do not confuse a loose know on the shaft with a weak detent /index on a damper. One of mine is very vague in feel.
