Default Rear suspension help

Got an 03 STI and thought the rear shocks were starting to knock back in June / July. Had a service in July and Subaru said they couldn't find a problem and when I drove away it seemed ok

Now my extended warranty has expired - end of August - then knocking has returned but in just a few days it's got really bad and the handling is badly effected. Over bumps it feels like the NSR wheel is leaving the ground. Also the ride height on that side ha gone UP by at least an inch.

Will this be the struts ???

Check you haven't busted a spring, this would account for the height drop. That and the spring platforms etc.

Did check the spring and it's fine. But the effected side is riding HIGHER than normal

Something in the damper housing stopping the damper going in all the way, problem at the seal, not something you can do much about without removing it I'm afraid, but worth jacking it and lifting the dust shield and see if there is anything obvious on the outside of the damper body (shiny bit), or on top of the dust seal, or if the dust seal is displaced.

Just to let the Scooby masses know.... my symtoms were knocking becoming really really bad. Then one rear was riding over an inch higher than normal. Driving the car was terrible.
Over bad bumps it felt like the rear was leaving the road. ( I did stop driving it pretty quickly).

Changed the rear struts and the car drives like a dream
