Default Switching from Tein to BC??

I have set of Tein super street which was running 4k springs front and 3k rear, i was not happy on track and Scoobysprint, sloppy, bogging down, wollowing So went for switching the the 4k to rear and getting 5k up front, not much difference! So spoke to Apex re getting some BC inverted coilovers with a 9k/6k set up and kit sounds very good value for money.Spoke to Glen @ Carnetix about these kits and tells me they fitting no end of them on scoobs over more higher end market kits. Think will be opting for them soon

You were sold the wrong Teins for track use mate. It's nothing to do with the manufacturer; it the spring rates that were unsuitable. 4/3 is a road use set up...and personally I think it's about as stiff as you should go on the road with a classic.

Tein also do dedicated track set ups running much stiffer springs than the superstreet, which are a street set up.

9KG/mm (f) 6KG/mm (r) will be pretty much intolerable on rough roads IMO

Thanks mate, been informed that if i go for the 9kg/6kg on Tein superstreet then the damping will not be up to the job, thus looking at BC Could the 9/6 spring set up be ok and work on Tein super street dampers???? This kit was already on car when i took over.
Thanks guys in advance

I moved over from Ohlins to BC 6/5's - dunno what spring rate the Ohlins were but they were £#5$%*! hard and I loved em until they broke! The BC 6/5s are great for comfort and they do go pretty hard at full click- but not quite hard enough for my liking (or from what I'm used to). Great shocks though I might add!

I may try out switching the 6's to the rear and putting a 9 spring on the front as apparently you can go one set stiffer or softer on the BC dampers, but before I do I'm going to add ARB's to see if this stiffens things up a little.

Let us know how it goes and what ya do!

I doubt the superstreet dampers would be up to the higher spring rate as std, they're valved for 4/3 on a classic, but you may be able to get them re-valved....worth speaking to Tein? Otherwise the lot has to go.

I can't believe the spring rates some people will put up with on the road. 4/3 will make you wince over bad roads if you crank the damping up sufficiently!

interesteding.

Im awaiting delivery of some 6/5 from Bren as i was advised these will be good for fast road/track.

I want something which is good on track and i can still tolerate a 100 mile trip there and backin.

I currently have stock sti suspension so im expecting a VAST improvement.

Ok mate i totally understand what your saying and appreciate it, but its only for track/sprints, i do drive the car to events tho, so would have to put up with a BC 9/6 setup
Many thanks for feed back guys

What do you lot think my Tein set up are worth with brand new springs up front (5kg/4kg) AND EDFC?

As long as you know what use the car isn't going to get it's fine mate!

The requirements for a competition car are very different to a road car.

Just that sometimes people think stiffer is invariably better for a road car and that is most certainly not the case! All you end up with is a cronically uncomfortable car that you can't drive fast on anything but billiard smooth roads.

For the price of the Teins and the BC, you could have bought EXE-TC in the first place!

Problem solved!

Ive not tried EXE-TCs myself but one of our bigger trade customers is a Tein, EXE-TC and BC Racing dealer and they run BC Racing on their brand new Evo X for no other reason but they prefer them over the alternates.

Cheers for response guys.Spoke to Tein Tech support and super have to go.
Now in middle of discussion with Simon @ Chevron Motorsport( really nice helpfull guy) and he looking in to some fairly new Bilsteins Race setup, waiting for price but sounds quite promising. Also he recommends upping my 22mm rear arb to 24mm along with poss 24mm over standard up front, also go for the yoko ao48 against r888.Top bloke with sound advice Think will go down to there place in Stafford to get whole thing done and set up, considering he is behind Jons standard engine blobeye running in Time Attack think approx 380ish bhp and his times are quite amazing due to chassis/handling etc setup

Scott.

I like to think that my driving has something to do with it too Scott :-)

But, as you say, our car is all about the suspension and brakes rather than massive power.
