Default 27mm rear rollbar to OTT on hawk wagon?

Hi all, I ordered a 22mm rear rollbar for my hawkeye wagon but the seller cannot find it. He has instead offered me the 27mm heavy duty equivalent.

Although it sounds impressive is this not maybe a bit overkill? I do like to drive quick as I am sure most of us do but thinking it could make the rear too rigid? Or at worst shear mounts etc. off?

http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_...umber=BSR36XXZ

Rest of the setup is the 18" Prodrive wheels and it is on the blue Prodrive springs.
It is firm I just want to reduce the roll a bit.

thanks,

Far too large IMO. Source a 22mm rear bar from a different supplier. Try AS Performance.

I'd only go with a 22mm max 24mm on the back, 27mm will need uprated mounts, along with the 18's it will be very firm and make the back end skittish and probably upset the front too, a little give is a good thing as it gives some warning before it lets go.

cheers for the quick replies.. I do intend to change the front as well but just wanted to do it in stages. As for mounts the thickness is reduced and it uses the 24mm bushes.

I will reply back to the seller and ask if he has had any joy in finding the 22mm.

What would you advise for the front? same 22/24mm?

thanks again,

Hi there

As above 27mm Rear ARB is too big and I would go down the route of the 22mm at front and 24mm at rear,we run same ARB's on our wagon without the issue and deffo is worth it every penny on the wagon

If you will go down the route little bit stiffening I would go with bushes upgrade and Roll Centre/Bump Steer mod this should help you with better fell with good wheel alignment and at this stage what I would add are camber bolts at front and rear

Hi, I have see a few mentions of the Roll Centre/Bump steer mod. Can I assume it is this kit? http://www.whiteline.com.au/product_..._number=KCA313
Is there a cheaper way of doing it at all?

I think if I had to change the components for whatever reason I would do this without hesitation. My ethos is "if it needs to be changed, upgrade it"
I am saying that with good intention but I am sure give it a month or 2 and I will look at them again

The next purchase will be a front roll bar and additional bits to match the rear one.

I am new to owning an Impreza so any other cheap/free mods also welcome..

thanks

Hi there

Yes is this kit, similar is from SuperPro,which I think is cheaper and this kit selling like Apex Performance or AS Performance both are dealers for above mentioned companies

Please check what wishbones/control arms you are running,if you are running steel one I would straight away contact Subaru UK,they must be replaced for Alloy arms,if you will be doing check thread Free castor mod, this should help you to gain little bit on this front

Really depends on the more factors what I would replace,on our wagon we went with everything what has been on market, although last bit what I wanted to do has been polybushing, but we run almost new bushes like on the ARB's,ALK,Roll Centre/Bump steer etc

ok that's cool thanks, maybe in a while then.
I know for a fact I have steel wishbones etc. When you say they must be replaced do you mean in order to do this mod or due to a recall?
I am fairly good with the spanners and have a mate who is a VW mechanic so tend to do most things myself.

Either way it is starting to sound expensive lol.. So I think I will stick to my guns and upgrade bits as they need to be replaced.

rear anti roll bar should arrive today so will look at fitting this weekend.

Thanks,

Hi there

If you have steel wishbones then you will need get them replaced for alloy one,yes on them has been recall,as I said speak with yours nearest Subaru dealer or Subaru UK

Really you don't need replace everything right now, just bit after bit and you will see, what next can be bought for little money, keep eye peeled on the For sale section, most of the classic or New age parts fit too wagon

Good luck there

Dealer told me mine had been done.. They were assessed and deemed as ok so were rust protected..
As for the roll bar supplier sent the 27mm bar..... Decided what the hell and fitted it with uprated chassis mounts and drop links. Feels much better tbh, does push the front a little but plan to buy a BSF12Z to compensate for this.
No real loss in ride quality but road noise has increased a little.

Does anyone know if the bar BSF36Z will fit an 06 wagon at all? Seen one cheap so thought I would ask and try my luck.
Thanks

BSF12Z fitted this weekend. vast improvement
Car corners so flat now, its a bit of an odd sensation cornering with a lot less body roll. fast corners is where it shines the most, feels much more stable.

Only issue is I am starting to look at more engine mods now lol.
