Default Knock sensor

I dont suppose anyone has a new knock sensor they want to sell and it also fits a V2 Impreza ?

Had an issue with mine the last few days and after investigating the sensors because it wasn't bringing up the incorrect error code, it looks like the Knock sensor was the culprit, it has a crack along the top of the sensor.

Well,

The car Idle's fine, when driving and accelerating, the car does slightly hesitate but very slight and hard to notice.

Besides the hesitation, you do hear a slight variance in the noise of the engine and exhaust tone.

I initially thought it was down to the IACV or possibly TPS but looking at alot of the sensors, I found the crack in the knock sensor.

The engine light comes on at various points while driving, no specific time like coming off throttle or going on the throttle, it just appears when it wants too.

Codes coming up were 24, 23 and some others. For a minute I was thinking the car was having a nervous breakdown, I just hope it is the Knock sensor and all will be okay.

What symptoms are you getting ?

All seems fine when not fully up to temp but when it is it starts boost cutting, popping back through airbox and at times through the exhaust but if you turn the ignition off and let it stand for a minute that seems to clear the fault and boosts and pulls like a train, cover a few more miles and it's back to square one. However I've turned the ignition off and bump started it on the go and that also seems improve things but not perfect.

That sounds very similar to how a car on carbs would run like if it was runnning to a weak mixture through the inlets.

Normally on carbs, you would get pop and bangs through the exahust and spitting back through the carbs because your getting to much air and not enough fuel causing pinking at extreme levels.

Is it the standard induction box with panel filter ? If so, there must be a leak somewhere in the breathers or induction box

Had it mapped on Wednesday and fault never showed on the dyno or on the test drive but it's been playing up for months. It's certainly seems temp related. I went for a long drive with Ant with his computer plugged into it and he's happy all the fuelling, boost etc is all fine, he thinks from what he's seen it's getting hot and it's electrical related, tried a brand new coil pack today and gapped the plugs and no joy, a new set of plug leads are on the way but patience is starting to run thin.

It wouldnt be the water temp sensor just infront of the turbo under the intercooler is it ?

They are prone to go caput on the early versions and can cause problems with fueling and running.

Basically it can think its either cold when hot or hot when cold at any time and of course adjust the fueling to match.

I had to change mine about 2 years ago because of running problems and fueling,

If it was then I'd think that Ant would of picked that up when he had it hooked up the laptop out on the road when it was playing up. I'll have a look at the knock link in the morning, not sure where to go after the leads and knock link?? Hope I can get to the bottom of it by next Saturday.
