Inter cooler was not looking its best and letting the engine bay down, Fed up of polishing the aluminium inter cooler so I have decided to paint it
After some research on here I decided to paint it, firstly cleaned with anti-grime and degreaser, rubbed down with some super fine grit wet & dry paper, put on 2 thin coats of etch primer followed by 2 thin coats of Halfords aluminium paint, had to cut a stencil for the STI emblem to finish the job off nicely.

But the model has a larger than normal TMIC so I have to find another unit or get mine reconditioned as the core condition isn't great - there are quite a lot of bent fins.

I think I will get mine done in October when the car comes off the road for some TLC.

Sit down for a hour with a tweezers and straighten the fins out thats what I done, and get a long needle to get the bugs out..you can either eat them or throw them away..its up to you

A Magnum Lollipop stick is just the right width and thickness (oh and taste beforehand). You push the stick up from the underside then as Lee said "Eat Bugs".
I flushed the O/C out with meths and petrol (it evaporates and does not leave an oily residue like white spirit) as well to get the oil residue out. It's surprising how much is in there.
I was wondering if Ricketts Rads could refurb them, it's a very similar contruction to a radiator

Much as I quite fancy a high protein diet of impacted and dried out bugs I think I will pass on that one and just try a high pressure air blower first to see if that can shift the worst of them.

I did think about petrol but I can get 5 litres of brake cleaner cheaper through work, I think that Rickett's might be able to renew the core but whether the core they would use would be any good is anyone's guess.
I did think about using AH Fabrications in Hereford who do a lot of work for F1, RCM and WRC teams, OK they won't be the cheapest but they will fit the core material as used in F1 technology if I want it.
I suppose it all comes down to how well it comes out if I straighten out the bent fins and clean it out plus of course how well the flaking paint comes off the end tanks and what state they are in.

FairPlay under the bonnet along with every other aspect of that car is spotless.
He opened the bonnet last night in the garage and the pictures really don't do it justice, immaculate![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
I was quite reluctant to sit in there with wet shoes
and very surprised it made an appearance at the new Impreza launch in the pissing down rain
Fair play as always

Great work lee, I thought you said you weren't a machanic that looks remarkably like engine work to me unless it's made of wood and sprayed silver. Looks great mate but I can see a little spot of dirt top left corner bet you have to go to the garage now and check lol

I will get it done, I wish I could find a good condition TMIC and then I could do it at my leisure.
But the model has a larger than normal TMIC so I have to find another unit or get mine reconditioned as the core condition isn't great - there are quite a lot of bent fins.![Brickwall](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/brickwall.gif)

Why don't u fit a Newage STI top mount? Bigger and should be easier to find a good condition one, and its still OEM.
