Default To de-cat or not to de-cat

Hi folks I'm looking at getting a new exhaust, but not sure wether to go de-cat or not, some say you need to get a re-map, some say no !!

What's your thoughts on this, has anyone gone de-cat and not had a re-map ??
If so how does the car run, also is the ecu on a p plate, 96 wrx mappable ??

Thanks in advance ceri....

I have been looking into remapping my p plate 96 and have had some good advice on the ESL board which looks like a great option, there are plenty of threads and advice on here for you to look at. As far as I know you should remap any modifications you make. De catting downfalls would be passing mot emissions

I've heard so many good things about ESL it's defiantly the route I will be taking, now I hear they do a Motorsport pack which includes antilag and launch control amongst other things this excites me even more. We'll worth a look

I've decated and put a system on a GT4 Celica I owned many years ago without a remap and I did get boost cut issue's now and then so the car obviously wasn't happy although I was far less educated about this sort of thing back then. I did the same with my STI V3 but did very little mileage, driven sensibly and already booked in for ESL so these days I value my car a lot more so wouldn't risk it myself without getting it set up right ASAP.

IMHO as for a remap it's either an aftermarket ECU like an Apexi which you can pick up for around £350 second hand but you'll still need a map tweek or ESL daughter board which I think is the best value for money out there for early Classics and gives you the option to run mafless.
