we were woken up at 5am on sunday (7/12/03) by the car alarm of our astra, which is parked bumper to bumper to our scooby .
our neighbours van is very close behind it also.
what the scum had tried to do, was move the astra, to get the scoob away![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
luckily though, we were all woken up by this and they gave up.
they wouldn't get very far with it anyway, as it needs a new engine and has a flat battery, but that's besides the point![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
just letting everyone in the area know, so you're aware that there's someone around after a scoob, be careful and make sure your scoob's secure etc...

hi Kev, the impreza started to judder a while ago, then one morning on the way home from work, it just died on ray and lost all power and was making an awful noise
we have a friend who used to work for t***eways as a mechanic.he said it was the tappets (shows what 'gimps' they employ
), we have since had advice from a 'proper' mechanic who said the noise it's making has nothing to do with the tappets and is more likely to be a blown turbo or piston slap as it's common in the MY97 modes ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
either way, it looks like it would cost a whole lot more to get the bottom end replaced than it would to get a new engine in it, so that's the option we're going for, that way, if it's a process of elimination and other things start to show a fault, it won't keep bumping up the cost![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
so , as soon as we can, we're sending it to a specialist who will do a proper job on it, rather than the local dealer, who's likely to charge more than double the ammount we have been quoted !!
, oh, they also have decent mechanics too, who know exactly what they're doing

we've left it a bit late now to get it back in time for xmas, if we manage to send it in the next week, but we've been without it now for about 2 months
so a few more weeks won't make much difference, at least we'll be able to go out in it again when we get it back ..lol
