Over the last few days I'm noticing a knocking at the rear on the near side. It feels like a seized shock. Really noticable when coming to a slow stop and then feel a drop at the rear and hear a knock.
Any ideas? I know the Sti's were prone to shock problems but not the WRX's.
Time to pop down to CVC I think.

sounds like the famous knocking strut problem - i've heard it in WRX's before. If you want Gaz give me a call and we can hook up. I know that sound all too well so will recognise it if it is

Had mine replaced last Nov at service, Only 23K on them, same problem by the sounds of things Gaz.
When I asked Paul at CVC about them he said "It was a known problem with BOTH wrx's and Sti's.
IM paid for mine to be replaced......

only problem with OE replacements is that they will go again (they use excatly the same kit!) - usually by the time warrenty cover has expired

Cheers guys I'll book it in with CVC to have a look at. When you sit on the tail gate and bounce you can hear it knock. Do they swap both the rears or just the one? I guess I already know the answer to that...
Rob if your around on the weekend I'll drop you a line. Shame I can't go for some AST's at the moment.

Just been down to CVC. New showroom is very nice. Spoke to Paul who had the car checked over and its booked in for two new shocks on Wednesday. He says that they have now apparently found a modified strut (still inverted) that won't fail again. Believe it when I see it but sounds great anyway.
So need to book a trip to PS for Wednesday afternoon I think.
Also he said they have sold 13 of the new 320's already off book. The replica will be there next week with the new cars arriving mid March. Nice looking cars. The Subaru Impreza RB320. As for next week he was tight lipped. Don't know if that mean they've nothing planned or what? ;-)
See you all next week.
Gazz.

For the 2nd time.....this webserver is **** btw.
Went down to CVC with a less than safe car. came away after coffee biscuits and a warm office to use whilst there with two new type rear struts and a safe car. need to go and see Fuzz now.
Cheers to Paul and the back room guys at CVC who never get a mention.
See you Sunday and check out the black STI with some dodgy rims for a silly price! Havin a larff.
Gazz. (thi sis the abridged version cause I couldn't be arsed to type it twice).

When I was last at Powerstation I mentioned the knocking coming from the back of mine and apparently there is an official Subuaru 'workaround' that basically involves fitting a nylon washer to the top of the top mount (IIRC
), this stops the top of the strut knocking against whatever it is it knocks against by removing the gap which caused the play.
Subaru were reluctant to release this info to non-main dealers but they managed to get hold of the internal memo from them, as well as the full details of the workaround.
