Just checked the battery connections cause I just put my postive charge system back on, I took it off when I put my strut brace on and I couldnt figure out where to put it, but its back on and connections are fine. I was going to get myself some iridium spark plugs just in case they need changing should I replace them now or wait for 2000 miles then shes having her 40,000 service.

Its funny but it seemed to have started better with it on, but I thought it was me being silly, but the positive charge system has been off for a week and this is the first time she hasnt wanted to start, so I dont know if its the weather, or it could be down to the thing that she gets used on weekends only, I have the works van and the Mrs walks she works in the school around the corner, all the battery cells are full, Im going to leave her standing for a couple of hours, then I'll go out and turn her over see if she starts.

Thanks everybody for all your help, its like having a sick child you get very worried when something is not right.

Had this same problem with my legacy turned out to be the fuel pump. When it refused to start if i give the tank a thump while the wife was turning it over it started. New Walbro pump fitted now and all is fine. Cam sensor is another thing it could be.

As Said, I'd start with the battery. They seem to last about 5 years and then start packing up.

Mine lsted just over 5 years before giving up the ghost

Well Ive just come back from starting her, and she started first time. Its either she dont like town with all the door dingers around and Tesco but I will try her again in the morning, Ive got the XCS positive charge system on her now and I know that holds a charge but it also takes off the battery so Im just going to have to find out in the morning, but I think it's the original battery when she first came out of production 2002 so she might need a change, any recommendations of a battery and where to get one from apart from Halfrauds.

this is the time of year they pack in - they don't seem to like the cold. I'm expecting to have to get one myself this time round

Got mine from a battery place between Blackwood and Ystard Mynach last summer, cost me £36.
When you start the car do you wait for the fuel pump to prime or just try and start it straight off? Mine starts easier if i allow the fuel pump to prime before turning it over.

How do you prime your fuel pump, I thought with an automatic choke you could flood the car What do you do to prime your fuel pump, wifes laughing she says it sounds disgusting how do you prime your pump, (leans over slaps wife and then calls ambulance for myself.) Do you pump your excelorator or what? Let me know.

Cheers

Turn the ignition to the first position, you should hear the fuel pump working wait for it to stop before turning the car over, normally about 2 seconds.
Just lets the fuel pressure build up before trying to start it.
Don't touch the excelorator.

This isnt a sign of the fuel pump is on its way out is it? and its funny you should mention that, I had it turned to the first position when I was pumping up the tyres and it started perfect. I'll give that a try tomorrow, cheers m8

Sounds like mine last winter, after new heavy duty battery solving problem for a week she died completely. Breakdown could'nt get her going (even used multiple power packs straight to starter motor !!). All the correct lights lit up on dash, fuel pump made noise, starter made a clicking (solenoid noise)

New starter (well few years old from scrapped car £60 ) and problem solved, even fitted it myself.

Just to let you all know, she started first time today, so fingers crossed, I went out and tried her 3-4 times during the day each time firing up lovely, so I am now confused on why she did it yesturday. Thanks all for the help, hints and tips, but for the first time ever I did prime the fuel pump and I think this helped.
