Anybody running a Simteck ECU ?
I'm thinking of purchasing this ECU instead of buying a boost controller and having to pay for a full map
Had a quick look on Andy Forrest's site and from what i've read, it looks like a good bit of kit and i'll be able to lose the MAF.
on another note, if i buy the Lateral Performance MD321 turbo, are 550 injectors gonna be big enough ?

Simtek seem to be the ECU of choice at the mo, if i hadn't had a good deal on a used GEMS it's what i'd be using for my car, go for it
Depends which MD you go for, if it's the H (400bhp) then 550 may just about cope, if it's the T varient (450bhp) then no chance you need bigger.

He is the 'SIM' behind Simtek...
He has been a well know respected tuner/mapper for a long time...... with many people suggesting that he great at mapping GEMS....
He developed the simtek with another company (Alcatek...)
He's oop North.

Andy F's website states ;
SIMTEK
Available for all model years from 92 to 00
One of the main selling points of the SimTek ECU is its ability to eliminate the MAF sensor.
This is particularly useful on 92-96 cars where the OE maf is limited to approx 350bhp
Is is also an excellent way to improve the reliability of the 99/00 UK and Sti V5&6 when power output is increased. The additional cost of this ECU is soon offset by eliminating the cost of frequent maf sensor replacement.
This ECU has the ability to hold 2 full maps making it suitable for running different fuels.
Anti Lag and launch control is also available at extra cost.
From £895+vat supplied, fitted and custom mapped.
Think the ALS is about £150 extra... not sure on launch control. Perhaps we can get this a bit cheaper if we do a group buy and get Mr Forrest to come down

I just paid £75 + VAT for Launch control & ALS is the same, if added seperatley after the basic ECU is fitted....
I'm sure there's deals to be had out there, for it ALL in one package.... ECU, ALS & Launch Control

I've got a 95 ron and a 99 ron map
got 360 bhp and 380ft lbs.....
However...... i've currently got a restriction on the turb inlet/90' bend which is why it's below what it should be...
I need to sort it out (i.e. go front entry - lift the manifold) to get the 400 she deserves

Oh yeah....
worth getting the software/dongle if you fancy some datalogging.....
you can also change the limit for the Launch..... and if you are apro... map it yourself !!
I bought mine... 'just to have'
the back up service is second to none.....
spoke to Steve Simpson asking how the launch control worked.... and he talked me through a few simple steps !!
BIG praise to the Man !!!!
Phil
only £90 for it aswell !! ish

sure did............ but you don't seem to need it with launch control..... (When using launch control)
as it fuel cuts/retards (whatever it does) and it causes the turbo to spin with the unburnt fuel....
I suppose similar to Anti lag.....
Ask Andy tomorrow... he'll know how it works... i'm just a blabbbering idiot that heard some big words !!

after arriving 2 hours late (to no fault of my own lol) andy eventually got started doing his buisness setting up the simtek anti lag and duel maps, we hit the road to do the first map which was on v-power managed 360/370BHP @ 1.3 bar before andy noticed the EGT temparture was going through the roof, no probs probably a dodgy thermostat i was hoping, we limped back to his place stopping three times to let the car cool down, he did a few things topped up the water/coolant as it was low and we took off again to do the meths map, got it as high as 1.45 bar of boost (car was pulling like a train and all systems were go with an estimate of 390/400 BHP) before the EGT went through the roof again only to discover my head gaskets F****D
quite happy with the figures though 360/370BHP @ 1.3 bar is nae too bad if i say so myself
the anti lag sounds the dogs danglies bits too
so in effect
360/370BHP @1.3 bar on vpower
390/400BHP @1.45bar on scottimax
these are just estimates from andy though

very impressive figures there !!!
Well..... you get:
a lead
a dongle
Software
you need a laptop.... or a desktop with a long lead
load software, plug in dongle connect to ecu....... bobs your uncle....
the dongle is the same size as a USB memory stick.......... it's the 'key to unclock the software when connected to your ECU'
good if you wanna data log........ if you would ever need to......... I just fancied having a looksee inside..
