Default Government to bring in motor insurance for vehicles off the road

Heard on the radio this morning that the government is to bring in new law's that make people insure cars that are garaged or parked on private land.
It sounds like you will have to have good reason not to have your car insured even if it never goes on the public highway
I suppose they have to find some way of getting back some of the billions they have spent on the credit crunch

We should display a disc for insurance and they can then check for that at the same time as the road tax, that should be interesting

I caught the end of the conversation on the radio this morning and thought i was hearing things.

Though if you sorn the car of the road, whats the point of insuring the car as you cant drive the car as its untaxed.

Like you said its a typical goverment scam to reclaim some money

You shouldnt need to display anything these says, its all held on computer database. One look at your numberplate and they know if its taxed, insured, mot'd, whether you have a license, the list goes on...

Even if you had a disc to display, still would'nt mean you've made payments for the Insurance....well not all of them anyway

As I understand it if the car has a SORN against it then the legislation does not apply, so you could have a race or track car and trailer it to an event and not have a problem.

Mind you I could be wrong

There's a bit about it on Pistonheads but not very clear about the details:
