Default New noise......

Posting up here in case anyone has an idea about a louder turbo noise I now have...........

Fitted an RCM Induction Kit afew weeks ago - icrease in boost noise and the usual "flutter" when lifting off - all good.

The last couple of days has seen an increase in boost noise - the car held at 1 bar boost pressure, but now seems to be a little under this, maybe 2 increments on the gauge (0.2-3 bar under norm peak levels).

Have I got a loose/cracked pipe somewhere and if it is possible - which one would it be (main culprit), all looks OK from the top and things seem tight - but not delved too deeply yet

Si

Whats the drivability like is there any surge they have been known to cause it?

IIRC as the air flow from the RCM induction kit is greater than the standard indiction system it might just create a problem for the MAF as it might be confused by the increased air intake.

I would put the standard air filter box back on until the mapping session with Bob as when he creates the map it will take into account the increased air induction.

I am probably wrong, so I will apologise now and wait for the correct answer.

I'm not sure what surge would be like - but it doesn't seem to be getting to peak boost, like it was - not far short but lower nonetheless................

To my ears, it became louder as the boost built up and more hollow sounding, over and above the induction noise it was making when fitted - this is my 3rd kit on different cars and it's not the "general" induction noise - I don't think............

Yeah Ty that would stand to reason - looking at the RCM site this type of filter is apparently OK to use before/without a map, I stand to be corrected there - the other one they do - huge one for the GOBSTOPPER (I think thats what it's called) does need to mapped to use it first

try the ecu reset mate it might need to learn new values then hit the 1 bar boost again
worth a try i do this after most performance mods.

Simon I can plug my VI monitor and read any fault codes which might give you an inidication of a stored fault, I can then reset the fault. We can then take a test drive to see if the fault occurs.

I don't know about Imprezas but you might have a fault which is only fleeting and doesn't bring on the CEL but it might still be stored in your fault memory.

It won't do any harm though and I will not charge you much.

I ran an RCM cone with no problems at all, that said Bob fitted it 5 mins before the car was remapped!

Hi Mate - I know, I thought that I'd read on the RCM site that the one I've got was Ok to use without remapping and the larger one he did, was carrying an "advisory" to fit it, on the mapping session only.

That would be good at least it could sort itself out that way, you would think there was room for the ECU to think a bit for itself and not be so rigid in it's ways Much like the Mrs

Tootling isn't any good for it, you should go round neath a different way, like round the green too millands road and give a blast.
