Stay away from Williams Motor Co in Cardiff, they're not very good apparently ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
But as said, UK models are generally cheaper to insure and maintain!! The Jap models are higher spec'd hence the higher insurance etc. Welcome to the money pit club

Bide your time, do a little research on here (there's loads and loads of info on models/specs etc, too much to list in one post).
For your first car I'd go for a near standard UK spec. Cheaper to insure and it'll give you a good intro into Scooby ownership.
You will spend loads of cash on the car as mervil has said so factor in the running costs and insurance costs as you do your research.
Perhaps pop along to one of the meets in Cardiff or Swansea for an idea of what you "could" or "should" buy. Good luck mate and welcome to the forum![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
As for gearboxes, yes some 5 soeed boxes do go BUT only on cars which are running much bigger power and torque levels 400/400. I was happily running 330bhp on my classic MY99 and 336bhp on my current bugeye.

Insurance depicts what your going to go for, If your less than 25 you've no chance on Jap import. Have a read through the insurance section about owners being raped by insurance companies.
I've had a Uk turbo and now own a Type R. I always regretted not buying a Jap Spec car in the first place, Don't get me wrong the Uk car was very good and took everything I through at it but it cost me alot of money to get it to the same power as a Jap spec.
If I could go back in time I would of gone for STI 5-6 (Either a normal STI , RA or Type R)
They are simply a better a car.
To be honest the gearbox's and diff's are the last thing to worry about and there not that much to replace when they do go (Under £1k for a recon box or around £500 for n2nd hand one and diff's are around £350 2nd hand)
Don't worry about dealers, Nearly all of us don't use them, we all use a couple of specialist instead. Cheaper and they know what there doing

Where abouts are you mate?
I bought my Import WRX when i was 25. (28 now) As said above,99% of us dont use main dealers. You can get parts from specialists easy enough.
As for buying a car,if you fancy one then put it up on here if possible and you will get an honest opinion on it![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)

Welcome matey.
I too have been around the block a few times
and am now on my 6th Scoob. 3 of each UK/Jap.
As Danny said the Japanese Domestic Market (Import) cars are better specced and more powerful than the UK models. At the moment it's a buyers market and there are loads about. But beware
as a "new to Scoob's person". Grab someone who knows their stuff and take them with you. Other
Come to the meet Wednesday, the Bridgend lot normally meet at 6.45 pm Pencoed McD's before coming to the main meet at J30 M4.

Hello Mate - same age as me - that's the only good thing about getting on a bit, is the Insurance rates are'nt too bad
- if you've been fairly good that is![Angel](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/angel.gif)
![Lol1](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/lol1.gif)
I've had 3 scoobs now - a Version 2 Jap WRX, an 02 UK STi PPP and my current WRX Jap Bugeye![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
As said pop along to the meet(s) there are many variants to look at there, with the most gorgeous being the "Bugeye"![Applause](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/clap.gif)
Personally have a look around for something a little different, a UK or JDM special edition - of which there are many over the impreza range.![Ponder2](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/ponder2.gif)
You do get more for your cash with a JDM

Hi Scott, welcome to Scooby Net. Come along to the meet this week and have a look at all the different models and see which you prefer. Its defo a buyers market at the mo, so have a look around and don't rush into buying. If i were to "Do it again" i'd start with a higher spec model to begin with, saves you spending so much when you start modding it and don't say you won't modify it, because we all say that! Happy car hunting, smiles per miles, you can't beat a scoob!
