EcuTek ECU
Managed to pick one of these up cheap, what should I be expecting with this ECU?
Should I have a paper certificate with it to prove it has the license?
Does anyone have a rough idea on how much a re-map would cost, some places say they cant re-map and have to start a full custom map.
Last thing, this has been mapped for pretty much the same spec as mine. Only difference being its mapped for a front mount and im running a top mount, would it be safe to attempt to run this? I may have acess to an air to fuel ratio meter for peace of mind.
Cheers Guys,
Ryan.

Ryan, the only mapper who can access the existing map is the mapper who set up the current map as they are locked to the mapper.
At least you won't have to pay the licence charge but you will need a new map from scratch if another mapper maps your car.
Personally I wouldn't try running your car on the existing Ecutek map but the choice is yours.
From personal experience I would recommend Bob Rawle.

Sorry forgot to say there is no paper licence, it's stored on the ECU.
As for cost I would think around £250 for a new map.

I would think that even if you took the ECU and car to the original mapper they would install a new map, as your car would differ from the original mapped car.
Drop Bob an e-mail I am sure he would be happy to help you, he maps on weekends so he might not get back to you until next week but he will get back to you.

ones the ecu has a license you can have it mapped by any mapper, some do lock them but most of the big mappers keep them open. you wont know for sure if it has a license till the mapper plugs it in to his laptop and reads the ecu. my ecu had been mapped befor id brough my car then has my car map by power station think it cost just over £100.
cheaps way to do it is get all the mod on your car u want to do then get it mapped

All Ecutek maps are locked to the original mapper as only they can access and tweak the map in place.
A map tweak will be very cheap anywhere between £80-£150 depending on what has been changed, but we are talking here about a fresh map from scratch.
I am having a map tweak with Bob in October with the addition of an Ecutek Megarom Map (proper twin maps, LC if I want it, proper in gear boost control plus other functions that I cannot remember).
Personally I would not ask Powerstation to map any car of mine, I can think of one member on the Welsh section (who shall remain nameless), who had to take his car to Bob as after Powerstation had mapped his car it was running less power than the factory map and running like a dog.

You could have one map for economy and the other for ***** out performance, there are I am sure other features which I can't remember.
As both our cars already have Ecutek licences it would only be a matter of paying for Bob's time, the Megarom mapping does take longer as it has a lot more features, I think the in gear boost takes longer to 'tweak' exactly to your car.
