No Luck In Drivetrain So Thought I'd Ask In My Region
Hi all,
was just wondering if anyone knew:-
Found out that the gearbox has gone and I am looking to replace it, was wondering if someone could tell me if a gearbox from a 1999 2.0 would fit my 1996 2.0 sport awd?
Also what would be my gearbox number? would is be the ty752-xxxxxx the other gearbox is ty754, what is the difference
also is it possible to change the bell housing from one gearbox to another? and will it line up?
Any help appriciated
cheers

The 754 casing will fit your engine with no issues. Just be sure that the output speed of the gearbox is the same as your rear diff.
The 754 is a stronger casing over the earlier 752.
Good luck with the swap. I've got it down to 5-6 hours out and in.

I have been told that that the 754 is a wider gearbox with 8 bolts (bell Housing) where as my 96 752 (bell housing) only has 4, could i split the bell housing off my 752 and put 754 gearbox into that?

I beleive the 754 gearbox does have more bolt holes in the bell hosuing than the 752, I know on Turbo cars the TY752 and TY754 box are interchangable and would assume this is the case on Sport models aswell as the number for the casings r then same.
If urs and the new gearbox r both out of UK spec cars then the diff ratios should match as its normally the jap ones that differ.

No the bell housing and box are one piece. The 754 does have 6-8 holes but you will use the same as what your engines has which will be 4. There will be no issues as long as the ratios are the same.

Not to throw a spanner in the works but i thought sports had a rear 3.9 open diff. If thats true you'll need to change the diff as well.
If its not a 3.9 then i'll shut up and move along quite peacefully
