Evening all as the post says just a quickie, I currently have a sports cat downpipe and was thinking of going to a full de-cat (downpipe) but was just wondering is it worth it (bhp/ power gain) and if so how do you get your de-cat cars through the mot? Mine has just passed it's mot but the tester was there for a good 10 minutes trying to get it through the emissions and that is with a sports cat. Feel free to pm me as I understand if you don't Want to post the reply for all to view but really need your help and advice as to if it's worth it (bhp/power gain) and if so where to take her next time my mot is due in order to pass thanks in advance people.

im looking for a sport cat at the mo. the way i understand it is,
with the sport cat u need to give the car some beans b4 the mot to get the cat nice n hot.
with the decat pipe you either get a standard downpipe with cat and on mot day change em over, after the mot you put ya decat back on. wait till next yr, do the same again or find yaself a friendly mot man wholl put ya through with the decat. i dont know of any, but im new to area really(3yr).
this is assuming ur car is a 96 on, pre 95, cat shouldnt matter

If you have a sports cat fitted they only work at their full potential if you get them really hot almost to the point of glowing, whenever I've had an MOT test on all 3 Impreza's I've owned I've taken them for a good blast first.
There are plenty of 'friendly' test centres out there and I'm sure that someone can advise you of one.
If you are going to decat your car then you will in all probability need to get it remapped or you could have problems like boost spike.

Depending on your other modifications and what type of Impreza it could be worthwhile but you will need a remap, you could see between 3-10bhp increase but if you don't remap it your car will probably be worse off.

i took my sports cat off and put a decat on mine was in the middle pipe though, cant really remember if i felt the power different cos i had it mapped with in a few days. i know it was a lot more free flowing as my car would pop and bang with the sports car when i took it out and replaced it with the de cat i had flames to
when i comes to mot time i put my sports car back on
