Default Poor workmanship

Rights guys as some of you know I have had no end of problems getting my alignment sorted. I have been to DAVE COES and MELVYN EVANS but they both done hash jobs Took it upto Indigo GT today and within 5 mins of getting it on the ramp he could see what my problem is since rebushing the rear end the subframe is out of line and I need to put in subframe lock bolts in to ammend this and then he can get me straight again Question being why the hell didn't the previous above named numpty grease monkeys notice this and still charge me for doing work that wasn't correct

I took my car today to Melvyn Evans and had my geometry & steering alignment done, I had a chat with Melvyn and he asked me why I needed the alignment done and which settings did I want to use. I gave him the Prodrive geometry settings and they set about the alignment.

As I work and have worked in the automotive trade for nearly 20 years I knew what needed to be done and what info to give over. It never ceases to amaze me how people will ask for a job to be done but don't ask for other checks or jobs to be carried out at the same time.

I'm not saying that is what has happened with you Rich but having the geometry aligned is not the same as asking someone to investigate why the alignment is out of true. The diff lockdown bolts will lock the diff essentially to the car itself, are you also fitting subframe bushes as well?

The diff lockdown will increase rear suspension noise and will stiffen the back end of the car up as I have done this to my Spec C but the increased noise can be a little irritating at times when driving on uneven road surfaces. Did Indigo identify why the rear alignment was out?

Anyway I was very happy with the alignment as its transformed the handling along with the suspension i had changed by Dylan at the weekend. Dave Coe did my Hawkeye alignment and again I was happy with the job done, I also got to see the WRC cars that Melvyn maintains and I've ordered a set of WRC carbon fibre mirrors from him today as well.

I'm not having a go Rich but you'd be surprised how many times in work we get asked to carry out a repair by the customer rather than investigate the cause of the problem.

I havent mentioned diff lockdown anywhere, subframe lockdown I said. If you read my post properly you will see that indigo identified the problem. All I was getting at was the fact that DC an ME didnt notice why the alignment couldnt be set spot on. Also I didnt ask indigo to investigate why it was the alignment was out I took it too them for it to be aligned properly with prodrive settings. Melvyn wasnt there when I went so its not him I was geting at but one of his mechanics.

Above are the Whiteline and Perrin kits available, the kits are for newages but I'm sure they are exactly the same as the classic fitment.

Are one of these being fitted to your car Rich as I stated earlier they lock the diff/subframe down, and perhaps I may have filled in the blanks but I did read your post properly.

I'm not technically minded about this issue but I guess what Rich means is if the Baker is not seeing the bread is right, then how how can they butter it ??

Ordered the parts already thanks ty, yeah they are what I need. John at indigo said that because I have taken the subframe off to re bush it that those bolts are required to put it back to where it should be and he will then be able align it for me. I'm only miffed with the other two places because they charged me for work that they couldnt do. Just be glad to get it sorted so I can enjoy driving it again.

If Indigo are fitting the Whiteline bolt kit then I'd also have them fit the diff support bushes at the same time.

Err, well done Simon.

Or in Neath parlance, if the frier can't peel the potatoes then how can he make the chips.

Bollocks !

The bolts hold the subframe in place to maintain the alignment during aggressive force inducing cornering post re-alignment. I have had my subframe off and it goes back as it came off. The only thing I can think is he's using them to help line it up to align before torquing down, but to suggest 'because I have taken the subframe off to re bush it that those bolts are required to put it back to where it should be ' is utter specialist bollocks !

100% worthwhile mod though

I do agree that on the basis that the alignement nut is on the subframe, failure to spot a miss aligned subframe is pretty poor
