Default Recently relocated to wales

Hi all,

Thought I would drop in and introduce myself.. Name is Brian, and I've recently relocated to swansea from the states (Chicago) The things you do for love..

For my first UK car I decided on an 08 5-Door WRX. It's quick, has leg room (i'm tall.. 6'6") and somewhat understated in looks (I'm old). Feel in love with it after the first test drive. I had an 07 M3 in the states and I find this car a bit more fun to drive..

Looking for a little advice on parts, um.. or what to do first.. I would like to bump up the HP around 300 to 320. Was thinking of a Downpipe (Which can pass a MOT), Exhaust, Cold air intake, and an engine remap. Do you think this is the direction I should take?

Thanks.. I see there is a get together in swansea coming up.. I hope to make it and see what others have done.

Brian

Welcome to SN and the Welsh Section the mod's you list are a good start - but then the sky is the limit

Depending on how much further you want to go from standard, a good mod would be an Sti Top Mount Intercooler, Uprated Fuel Injectors, uprated fuel pump.....then thers the uppipe to think about - so should see you get the 300+ish HP. A 200 cel downpipe should also help with the MOT.

The Subaru money pit

Then the mapping session

Hello and welcome to the Welsh Section of Scoobynet.

Try and pop along to the meet on the 25th if you can, it would be far easier to have a chat rather than keeping on posting up questions and waiting for answers.

Thanks all.. I'll do my best to get out there on the 25th.. Where does everyone park? I won't be able to stay long, I'll have my 9 month old son with me, as the wife will be working that night and won't be around to watch him..

Welcome aboard

I'd be very surprised if you were to get over 300 on the standard WRX turbo. I'm pretty sure they are unique for this model (IE not standard connection) so getting a bigger one may need a little searching around or hybrid the one you have.

As said, pop along to a meet and let the lads spend your money

My Old Wrx running a Td04 with a full decat , panel filter, uprated fuel pump and remap made 275 bhp and that was a jdm with Vvt.
You will struggle to wind out much more with that turbo fitted uless you go the hybrid route.

The same mods on a larger turbo and Sti injectors will see you into the early 300's.

Oh and Welcome to the forum.

Welcome along Brian You must be crazy moving this way across the pond. Not had any experience with the "Hatch" scoob's myself, but i'm sure you'll find plenty of info on here. Should be easy enough to get to that power.

Welcome to Wales Brian as said not sure really what is available altogether for the hatch but I'm just going to ramble on about what I normally say regarding the first moding stage.... have a look at brakes and suspension before anything else maybe a simple pad upgrade or pad and disc along with looking at springs and anti roll bars and strut braces this will give the car a much more positive feel and you will be able to really feel the difference when in the twisties. This will make the same bhp naturally quicky and more enjoyable not to mention safer before thinking of anything under the bonnet.

Few thousand tonnes of shredded tyres gone up in Fforestfach, will probably take a week to put out.

Welcome to Swansea Brian

Know where your coming from Bud, ive been in a long distance relationship with a young lady from Pittsburgh for the last 4 years and i think at some point il be making a hop across the water (the reason i havent bought myself another scoob )

At that point though we will have the argument of a Camaro (her choice) or a mustang (my choice)

Congratulations on picking a cracking car, ive not seen many of them around but funnily enough a new 08 plate parks close to my car and it look a great bit of kit (not yours is it ) i hope you get to go to the meetings and enjoy driving your car

Cheers

You've bought the perfect car to enjoy the roads around here. Try and get yourself to the meet on Sunday and say hello.

Hi Brian,

Welcome to the money pit and mad house that is Scoob ownership. Should of bought a JDM Hatch. It is more difficult to squeeze the extra donkies without major work on the new cars.

that would be the sensible thing to do.. and I thought the same.. Not very happy with the brakes as it sits.

Thanks.. Pitt is a fine town.. Outside the sports teams and the fans of em..

Mustang GT500.. THe camaro is too big, slow and handles like crap.. Mustang doesn't handle much better, but it's faster.. It does what american cars do best.. Go fast in a line..

I would go classic.. something from the 60's/70's for my first american car.. A 1970 Trans-Am would be the bomb... Big 454 .. That's what you want..

Hope to see you on the 25th..

Got to admit i love pittsburgh and my girlfriends family have got me into all things pittsburgh steelers and Pittsburgh Penguins though they are not TOO hard Core

Trans am's are a nice car and id love to be able to get hold of a 1974 or 1977 shape and do the bandit run some point. Though my personal favourite is the 1969 mustang fast back

There are hatch owners in the forum I'll find some links later as they are the guys that can really help you the most. It's a lot different on your car to the earlier one's and even though we can overview with advice it's difficult to be exact. There may even be second hand sti brakes and suspension out there which could well be a way to go.

Twin Town, classic quotes from a classic film!
"Fatties leg, gone to hosipital in an amblumance!!!"

Welcome to Wales Brian.

There are more and more upgrades (FINALLY) arriving on the scene for the hatch. I, like you, am one of the hatchback minority!!
