Hi there,

I posted in the General section about a 2001 Bugeye WRX Auto with 'tiptronic' sports shift on the steering wheel and a couple of posters told me you are the man to ask about one of these?

Do you or did you have one and is/was it any good? I know it probably isn't as good as a manual, but how does it compare?

Thanks in advance

Hi Sorry, I've been getting the Cave ready for winter I do indeed own one, although it's off the road at the moment with an engine problem

I've owned both 5 and 6 speed Manuals in the past and find the 4 speed Auto very good, I needed an auto following a foot injury and the 4 speed is very competitve on the road - apparently the box is good for 400 hp at the wheels, with an added gearbox oil cooler.

In the 3 years I've had the car the box has been perfect and ran at around 360 hp with no fuss at all.

The car's done around 60,00 miles now and looking forward to getting it going again, with as I say a non gearbox related problem

What I would like is a Jap 330 Sti Hatch A-line with the tiptronic box but they are a bit pricey at the mo !!

In a word I'm not sorry that I couldn't drive another manual impreza and find the system is pretty quick to change up/down too, in any of the 3 modes you can use i.e. straight auto, push/pull back on the lever or the steering wheel buttons.

Thanks for the reply and that is good to know. As I said in the other thread I have an overseas visitor who stays with me a few times during the year and they only have an auto licence so I thought of buying the car I saw as a 'best of both worlds' machine for running around in. Will go and take a look and have a spin in it.... and then will need to get the price down
