Default 6 speed gearbox

hi all,im new to this site and to jap cars to be honest,so my question is do all 6 speeds have limited slip diffs or not, according to wot i've read on here they dont all have them,so why are they such crazy prices second hand ie ebay,i mean real crazy ??? is it just because they r 6 rather then 5 speed ???wouldnt it be better to upgrade 5speed to lsd(price wise) or am i just being supid ?,just wondering???ta chris

dont all impreza's have rear lsd's, 6spd's are about 200bhp/lbs.ft stronger.

6 speed are ten times stronger than five speeds
Five speeds can only take 350ish hp then they break
6 speed take as much as 700hp plus and you can launch em
Hope that explains prices

Ten times stronger?

So on what you quoted it will take 3500bhp. That would be interesting.

Ten times stronger(figure of speach example)

5speed takes 350ish NOT 3500

350bhp x 10 times stronger = 3500

That's where that came from.

Some 5 speeds in classics don't even reach 300BHP without something failing, it's all about how it's driven with sympathy or not.

You can achive 350+ in a newage as long as its not launced with supporting mods, then its just a case of the box letting go.
Classics have a weaker box imo

Hands up all those who've destroyed 5 speed gearboxes (classic or newage).

Not yet.....much to my amazment (Rob touch's Wood at this point)

When she does let go(which it inevitably will) i will be going 6speed i would think, funds permitting, 6speed JDM for the lower ratio's and the DCCD.

Luck of the draw with them i think it is, regular gearbox and diff oil changes do help , i think they tend to get overlooked by a lot of people when they have their cars serviced (and just end up having their levels topped up) imho a gearbox and diff oil change is just as important as an engine oil change. Just my experience.
