help what powers a off duty cop have?
ok well earlier on today i took my scooby out for a weekend spin and i overtook this car on the loughor bypass heading towards llanelli when this guy got pissed started flashing his lights and all sort so i pulled over on the loughor bridge to see what his problem is and he goes "why u driving like a pratt so dangerously on the road you know im a police officer". (well something like that)
i just told him to go **** him self and more and told him your off duty what can you do go and do it. then he replies" im always on duty expect a call later" then he drove off.
what i need to ask i got a shot of his car but can he do this sort of thing thing and threaten me with the law when he is off duty getting a bit worried that this jerk is gonna do and report me and send out the plod.
please can someone help with what right he has if he really is a off duty copper cheers!
At the end of the day i just overtook him i dont know what his problem is the joker lol.

Expect a knock on the door,my son in law had one when an off duty copper seen him go through an amber light. They took his license off him and threatened prosecution if he didnt admit it.A week or two later they said they werent gonna prosecute and returned his license,I think it was due to a legal technicality myself

No doubt he has an inferiority complex & tiny manhood, hence his inability to accept being overtaken. Legally not much he can do, but they all stick together & if your card is marked they will be looking out for you. A mate had to sell his car & private reg for the same reason, after a similar run in evry time he went out in the car he got pulled for some fictitious petty reason.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
Will it just be the car they will mark or will all my cars that get marked as they mark my name i only take out my impreza now and again on the weekends its not my daily drive its just ridiculous how sad some jokers are.
i had a pulsar gtir a couple of years ago and had a bobby knock on my door saying my exhaust is too loud some idiot must have complained i just told him if its passed its mot then technically its fit for the road simple heard nothing else of it but i did sell the car on couple of months down the line and bought a scooby.
some people just gotta spoil other peoples life as they got nothing better to do
anywayz i will wait and see what happens just hope i dont get stopped by the pigs left right and centre like 10 years back when i just passed my test

Should of asked for his badge number and clocked the reg of the car he was in and ask in your local cop shop if this guy is for real if your that concerned, as if he was just pulling a fast one the law dont like people who pretend to be them
And on another note if it was a copper just explain how unprofessional he was in the manner he was perusing you which obviously gave you cause for concern for yourself and your property hence why you stopped, and his profound use of language towards yourself was very unprofessional , as mentioned above if they have no hard evidence then they cant do diddly squat imo, your word against his and his version of events compared to yours, just make a formal complaint if **** does hit the fan, im sure it will soon be retracted but if it ever happens again just flick him the bird and drive on by

^agreed, i wonder how he would have reacted if instead of being abusive back at him, you'd pulled out a notepad and asked for his name and badge number, written your own quick version of events, asked him to sign it, taken a photo of him and his car, say you work for the IPCC then driven off.
....likelyhood is he though that he was just a normal jobsworth and full of ****!

Yeah what he said
It's rarely going to be anything but aggravation of some kind, never going to be a pat on the back whatever the circumstances.
It will either be verbal abuse or an invitation to try your luck at bop-the-****-with-the-flashing-headlamps.
Either way you don't need it.

But how was it done?
Did he cut back in?
Was he blatting like a loon?
Was it a restricted speed?
OK then let's do some conscience testing.
Your passing a bloke getting duffed up, do you walk by?
A doctor see's a woman, child, man etc drop down in the street, do they walk past and say I am off duty?
A fireman is driving home and see a fire does he say "F**k it, I am off duty"?

He's blatantly guilty.

Trooper, even if he went past the guy at 90 (which by the way isnt necassarily dangerous driving), any real off duty rozzer would know that without the calibrated kit and systems in place to hold a conviction theres NOTHING that he can do!
Flashing and pulling someone over in this manner is completely unproffessional and a waste of time!
And your examples ....
"Your passing a bloke getting duffed up, do you walk by?"
Police advice would be yes, get to a safe distance and call the police or you'll get a beating too .... is this right? NO!
"A doctor see's a woman, child, man etc drop down in the street, do they walk past and say I am off duty?"
No, but nore should anyone, let alone a trained proffessional in a position that can make a difference, so using that example should EVERYONE on the road have the right to stop someone they think isnt driving sensibly? NO!
"A fireman is driving home and see a fire does he say "F**k it, I am off duty"?"
NO, but he doesnt go to the garden shed, pull out a hose and wade into the burning building before dialling 999 and getting the kit there to tackle it properly either! So in essence, he does no more than ANY member of the public would do!
The way this guy behaved makes it VERY unlikely that he was telling the truth about being a real policeman, and as such, should be reported for impersonating one! Id put money on him being a vigilante bell end whos so up himself he cant handle being overtaken!

We don't know if the OP was driving like a **** and is just eating sour grapes and embellising his account?
