Default JGM REMAPPING IN S.WALES (RESCHEDULED) - 4th/5th JULY

Due to a couple of technical issues with the cars we have decided to reschedule the mapping session with Simon (JGM) for two weeks later than originally planned. All details will be as per the previous thread with Simon coming down to ACE in Newbridge on Thursday morning (4th July) and mapping up to 4/5 cars in the afternoon/evening. Then, if required, he will stop over and do up to 4/5 cars on Friday 5th before heading back.

For any info/prices please visit Simon's webpage www.jollygreenmonster.com/subaru.htm or feel free to post any enquiries on the thread.

Group mapping offer:- If 5 cars then no travel costs and 10% off, 10 cars 20% off!

Hopefully the new dates will be more convenient for everyone

Steve

....forgot to mention, i also have a couple EcuTek licensed ecu's available for 99-00 model JDM STi/P1 and '01-'03 (Bug/Blobeye) model STi in case of interest to anyone? These could be fitted/mapped by Simon for a big saving on the price of buying a new license from EcuTek

I also have a variety of injectors, adjustable fpr kits, STi & APS top/front mount intercooler kits, exhausts, manifolds etc. etc. which could be fitted before mapping if anybody needs anything

Steve

Hi Steve, do you know if Simon still does open source mapping? Need to get mine checked and mapped but don't need all the bells and whistles of EcuTek really.

Cheers,

Dai

How much does it work if you get 5 people and have a licence from you?

I'm viewing a V6 STI in the week..

Hiya Dai,

I don't think Simon does open source, but it may be worth dropping him a line to check just in case

The normal price for EcuTek license and first map is £550 plus the dreaded (£660 in total). If you'd like it fitted/mapped by Simon on the 4th July it will be £475 all-in, and any subsequent remaps by Simon will then be just £150 plus VAT

I may be interested - just found some interesting stuff on JGM's site.

I've emailed Simon for some info.
If it comes back positive I'll book in.

A partial result, (just my luck that the UK Hawk's about the only thing that's of more use than its JDM counterpart) but enough of one for me to book in please.

Two maps are better than one I suppose (plus I might get a bit of extra bhp).
Who needs flat floor shift and throttle blip anyway ?

Thanks.

Anyone know if we have to find a time for the RR and then arrange the mapping around that or will someone arrange it as part of the appointment?

Cheers.

This looks to be shaping up quite well for next week

If anyone else would like to join us on Thursday 4th (afternoon/evening) or Friday 5th (morning) Simon will stop over to accommodate. Mine can be done on either day, so whatever suits everyone....

Simon will map on the road and use Ecutek Road Dyno to give you power figures (http://www.ecutek.com/Products/ProEC...o-Testing.aspx), but if you specifically want a rolling road/dyno test you can book that separately

Looking forward to it

Steve

I've spoken to Simon about mapping mine next week but due to my Mrs coming home from hospital after her knee op, the car suffering boost cut twice at one point on the way to pick her up and a very slight oil leak from somewhere I'm not going to have time to do all that's needed to sort the car out in time to make it.

Thanks Steve.

I'd prefer not to have Thursday evening, unless it's done by 8pm.
I live in Abertillery, so I'm very flexible with times other than this, if that helps with the organising.

Would so much like to come along to this, but feel a bit caught between the devil & the deep blue sea!
Sadly i don't get my Scoob 'till Tuesday evening (2003, just decat/filter), so all seems a bit 'rush rush' really?

However, i guess a remap would also give a good indication that everything 'is OK' with an engine etc???

1. Hmmmm, is Thursday eve still free??? Couldnt get to Newbridge till about 7:00pm though...

2. Would switchable map be an addition to the £475? As i do like the pob/bang AL scenario (to wind up the neighbours) but dont fancy it all time....

Probably a good idea to get the car a onceover, although it's a bit more expensive than an AA or RAC inspection !
Plus of course there should be the bonus of better fuel consumption and/or more effective running.

Just had a look at the EcuTek DDRD web page.
It's a very impressive product.

I did love this sentence, regarding carrying out acceleration testing:

"This will require two people - one to drive and one to operate the laptop. Do not try to do this alone."

I think Thursday will be very educational.

I cant see 7pm being a problem Dave.

What year and model is the car so I can best answer the switchable map question.

Thanks

Hi Dave,

First of all, the price of £475 fitted/mapped is only available if one of my own ecu's are purchased (which already have the EcuTek license in place). These ecu's are only compatible with JDM model cars, so i understand they will not fit UK model cars unfortunately

So, assuming that you're buying a UK model WRX or STi, you would need to either a)purchase a new EcuTek license (which will work out a bit more expensive ) or b)source elsewhere a compatible ecu with license in place, in order for Simon to remap it. On a 2003 model Impreza, my understanding is that the only way to get switchable maps/anti-lag etc. is with an aftermarket ecu such as Alcatek, which will be a lot more expense i'm afraid....

Whatever your budget, i would recommend that you get the car checked over/remapped sooner rather than later for peace of mind, and there's none better than JGM to do this for you

These cars are great fun but are certainly not cheap to own..... your bank balance will need to be prepared for a hammering

Cheers Steve.

I saw the "The normal price for EcuTek license and first map is £550 plus the dreaded (£660 in total). If you'd like it fitted/mapped by Simon on the 4th July it will be £475 all-in, and any subsequent remaps by Simon will then be just £150 plus VAT"

I guess what this means is "A new EcuTek license and first map is £550 plus the dreaded (£660) minus 10% discount = £594.

I hope i have this right now?

All set for tomorrow.... Simon is heading down in the morning, a few things to sort with mine and a quick bite to eat then we'll get the mapping underway

If anyone would like to pop by and have a nose around or a quick chat with myself or Simon they are more than welcome. We'll likely be around until late into the evening if past experience is anything to go by.... the postcode for ACE is NP11 4GU

Simon will be stopping the night, so could fit another 1 or 2 cars in if anymore would like to jump in at the last minute. He's then heading down to west Wales to map one more on Friday afternoon before heading home....

Yes, that's right Dave. It may be worthwhile for you to pop down if you can tomorrow and have a chat with Simon, as we may have a cheaper option for you if you wanted a checkover without going to the expense of the full EcuTek map

Cheers, Steve

A word of thanks to Steve for organising this, and of course to Simon JGM for his input .

Very informative and nice to talk to a few other enthusiasts.

Oh - the car put on 7% more BHP and 8% torque.
Now running 373/389 which is probably as far as a T20 will go.

To get more means 'enhancements', which wouldn't make it a T20 I suppose.

Tempting as it might be to get an engine such as Steve's Type RA.

Simon is totally mobile and I would have thought he would have sessions somewhere near to you every now and then.
Might be worth your while asking when he's next in your part of the world.

Why do you think your car's not running right?
What's troubling you about it?

(Oh, and what is it?)
