I read in a previous post you said that you didn't like a 6 speed in a classic, I'm considering this conversion for the RA.
I've been looking for either a spec c 6 speed or a spec d.
Do you think it would be better to go down the 5 speed route??
Regards
Dylan.

Only just seen this don't come on here that much these days, I fitted a 6 speed from a UK spec Bugeye STI in my classic it was ok but i prefered the car when it had a 5 speed.
I found when i went out for a blast in the car over lanes/mountain roads in the 5 speed i was regularly changing up/down between 3rd and 4th which a nice easy quick change, where as in the 6 speed i found i was using 4th and 5th more which isn't such an easy change if u get what i mean....
If i was to build another high power classic i'd go for a PPG or similar 5 speed.

Do you think a JDM would be different?? Isn't the UK box geared differently??
From what I remember of a certain spec c the gearing from 1-5 was almost identical to the RA but with the added benefit of a 6th gear??
Thanks again
Dylan

Umm I think the JDMs (certainly Spec C anyway) have shorter gearing, but I've never driven let allown a classic with one of there boxes in so can't say what it would be like.

I had a PPG in my old type r and loved the gearing, I now have a six speed in the newage STI but out of the two I prefer the 5 speed. The gears just seemed he right length and suited any kind of road.
I find you have to drop a couple of gears from 6th in order to overtake. Saying that a bigger turbo and remap should make it bit more responsive

It's currently with my gearbox builder who has checked it over for peace of mind before sale, everything perfect as new. It's running 4.444:1 final drive ratio with STi/P1 centre diff and UK 5th gear, but could be set up to suit whatever configuration required.....
