As a coupe of you know already I've been having a couple of issues with my Impreza, namely it couldn't keep water in the expansion tank. Fill it up, and after a week or so there is air in the system and the overflow is full and spilling over the floor.
Having traced this back to a leaky pipe, and leaky header tank, having replaced the tank I think I have a bit of a larger problem.
I think the route cause is that my Stat has failed closed, now with all this pressurisation, water-loss, I'm a little concerned. Basically my thought with the leaks was that the header tank was working normally when getting to temp, and overflowing, then sucking in air when cold. So creating an air bubble which as the process repeated ended up filling the overflow and dumping water on the floor. Now I'm slightly worried that this could mean H/G issues, as I get the idea in my head that I have to spend money![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)
My heaters stay HOT (normal), the gauge doesn't go over half.
Having not checked the stat yet. BUT I want to do a sniff test to diagnose if there is H/G issues, before I drop the water and change the stat.
So hopefully its not my h/g, but I'm prepared for the worst, and my garage is being cleared of Landy parts ready.
Here is a video of my leaky pipe, don't worry about the orange colour that is Halfords coolant, and not gunk from inside.
You can see the neck of the header tank where the leak is coming from.
