Thinking of selling the hawkeye
I am giving serious thought to parting with my car.
I haven’t really been using it enough and am increasingly attracted to freeing up the cash tied up in it.

That is true Ian but I am thinking of getting myself a classic for a few thoasand that I can use as a daily driver and rag the **** off.
I am not enjoying my car as much as I should because I am too 'kid-gloving' it because i am afraid of breaking or scratching it etc.
What I want is something that I can chuck about and not care much for.
I don't mean neglect or anything but not have to worry about when I use it daily and it picks up everyday dings.

My scoobs a 2010 hatch which I paid 20 grand for I don't have a garage to put it in so its on my drive all week because I have a van for work,I use it on the weekends and always look after it but at the end of the day its just a car that's the point,If it gets dinked theres not much I can do about it and if It goes pop then I,ll just have to fix it ,theres no point worrying about it just keep it and enjoy it,if you bought a cheap scoob you,d only be the same about that one too.

Its just on the drive presently Kev.
I just go round in circles in my thinking. Give it a week or two and i will be saying that I am keeping it.
Come another few weeks after that i will want to part with it again.
I am my own worst enemy when it comes to indecision.
Glenn is right - it the worst time of year to sell a car.
Take me with a pinch of salt unless you happen to have £11K in you pocket and want a fst car
SORN is a good idea.
Thanks for the input tho chaps

older car 'could' mean higher maintenance
1. Sell your car
2. buy an older cheaper car
3. cheaper older car develops a costly faulty
4. you've an old cheap car that's cost a fortune
Sometimes its better the devil you know.......apparently..
Thats what i keep telling the wife

A newer expensive car that is more reliable and costs less in maintenance
versus
a cheaper older car that is cheap to run tuntil inevitably something pops and empties my pockets.

I have considered parting with mine a few times too Dan but always end up convincing myself to hold onto it. The way i see it your car is your hobby as much as it is a mode of transport so you are not just selling your car but you are also selling your entertainment. I dont play golf or collect stamps or go out drinking 3 times a week so figure i deserve something i enjoy to spend my money on.

I do, I need to dig them out tho.
presently I don't have much chance to get online in the evenings so have a quick look in work. we have 20 minutes personal access time each day.
I have some on my phone so if you want to PM me your mobile number I can send them over to you to take a look at.

Do you remember that Vauxhall Advert on TV about 15-20 years ago that siad something like 'Vauxhall- once driven forever smitten'.
That should have been Subaru's tag line. I don't always want to own my Impreza but I never want to be without the bugger either.
I am going through a period where if the right amount of cash is offered I will let it go.
I doubt that will happen though.
Perhaps I ought to try and make it to more meets and I might feel a bit more involved.

You are right Ian and Glenn is right to agree with you. I enjoy having the Impreza parked on the drive so I can just look at it if nothing else.

The scoob however is a strange one, never owned a car so long and it still rings my bell when i drive it. Its a bit like women really, there have been plenty that have numbed my mind after time but only one that I married. Yes she gets on my **** at times and costs me money but something always stops me from selling her!

I cant imagine vauxhall having that effect on someone, i had a cavalier about 17 years ago and i was far from smitten with it!

We need to set up a group called Scooby's anonomous where people can talk in confidence about their addiction to their car. Or is Scoobynet that place already
