Rear suspension removal? Help in the easiest way to go about it!
Hello, gosh have been on here in months lol I have a 1995 impreza and she has failed mot on the rust! In the rear arches up where the legs attach there is a hole. Now the garage say the whole rear suspension needs dropping in order to access it!
So I'm wondering, if I take the wheel off, compress the spring, undo the bolts that attach the leg top and bottom will it slide off and out of the way
OR
Do I have to take everything off, discs, calipers, the arms that run across the car etc etc???
Thanks Claire

If you only need to take a shock off then its pretty straight forward. No need to mess with spring compressors.
Wheel off, remove 2 big bolts at the bottom of the shock going through the hub carrier.
The flexy pipe for the brake caliper is attached to the shock, but rather than separating the brake line its easier to "notch" the little bracket with a hacksaw and slide it out complete. Saves bleeding the brakes and possibly damaging old brake fittings.
Next pull the rear seat out to access the top of the shock, take the nuts off and the shock should drop.
A bit of jigery pokery and the shock can be pulled out.

To take the suspension strut out, you unbolt it from the top, and then from the hub. No need to everything off.
You may want to unbolt the caliper though to stop the brake line streching/snapping.
