Intercooler upgrade
For UK MY97. Would ideally like a bolt straght on job (e.g. STI 4?). For info, the MY97 has the rectangular (not slanlty) i/c, and the dump valve is connected to it via a pipe i.e. it doesn't bolt straight on to the i/c.
Anyone got anything?

Jamie, for reference you can fit a MY99/00 intercooler but the 99/00 dump valve won't fit. You need an adaptor as pictured...
That one was second hand but i think H&S and Jap Innovations do them.

Cheers for the info Carl. I'd heard you can fit an v5 intercooler to a MY97 as long as you fit the later dumpvalve as well, but to me it looks like the dumpvalve would foul that sensor/switch thingy. Any idea how much this adapter would cost? I couldn't see one on the JI website. My Dad was a welder/fabricator so we could always have a go at knocking one up .
To the other guys who replied - you have PMs (no, not that thing girls get ).

There is no way the IC would fit with the MY99/00 dump valve without serious manipulation. I'd recommend speaking to Ian at H&S if you want a stainless adaptor flange like i have. Clearance is still very tight however, i had to tweak the N/S mounting bracket a little.

Yeah, I was pretty sure it wouldn't fit.
I found this thread http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=394262 and Dyney has done this mod by welding an adapter on.
Is the v5/6 intercooler that much bettet than a v4 i/c - if not I think I'll just go for a v4 as it is more straight forward.

Dyney used a Bugeye intercooler which is larger than the STi 5/6. Rumour is that the STi 5/6 unit flows slightly better than the STi 4 although from what i gather any gain usually stems from changing of the plastic pipe (from turbo to intercooler) to the cast STi one.
Talking from experience i wouldn't bother changing the IC unless it was for something that will make a marked dfference, i.e. STi 7/8 or APS/MRT TMIC, FMIC etc.
